National Multicultural Festival 2026 Update:

🔥‼️ INTRODUCING FLAVA N ROOTS ‼️🔥

Made up of a collective of talented and experienced Pasifika musicians, Flava N Roots have come together from all corners of the ACT to rock the National Multicultural Festival 😁🤙💯

You may see a few familiar faces in this group (Canberra's own Sean Soundz & Hcee Family) as well as some newcomers to the festival stage, as they bring their Pacific Island flair to NMF2026! 😌🔥

Be sure to stay tuned on Saturday - the biggest day of the festival - and catch them from 945pm grooving the night away at Glebe Park! We can't wait!! 🙌🙌💯💯😌

PCC is proud to support and announce the line up for the Pacific Island Showcase at Glebe Park for the National Multicultural Festival 2026 🙌

Having appeared at the NMF in 2023 & 2024, Kingdom Gen is an exciting group that will be performing again this year! 🔥 While they are often giving service in the community and faith, their professional performers also know how to rock the stage and give the audience an awesome Pasifika experience! 😌🤙💯 We are stoked to see them back again to give us that Pacific flair 😁🥥

It has been a challenging time for the friendly islands of Tonga, so it was heart-warming to see the immediate outpour of support and aid from people around the world post disaster ❤️🤍

The rebuild will be long and help will be needed for a while, so it's awesome to see local sporting teams and their Tongan contingents step in to support during a time like this! 💯🙏 Huge thanks to and their working crew for making this happen, malo e ngaue! 🙌

Thanks to Australian Red Cross Lifeblood for always spreading the message! 😀 The message still stands, now is the opportunity to help out and donate our blood, as it is also a rare blood type, and will help the patients who need it most! 🙏💯

🥰 We couldn’t have said this any better ourselves, so we are going to leave it to ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman to give her final shoutout to all of you as we end lockdown tonight:

“On our last day of lockdown, it seems fitting that I deliver my last formal shoutout of this outbreak.

This is to everyone in the ACT that has helped us get to this position.

It is to our essential workers that have continued to support the community, the families left at home while their partners and loved ones have worked sometimes 24 hours on responding (and that includes mine). To our teachers who have had to completely adapt the way that they work to continue educating our children. And to the parents and carers that have juggled home schooling with working from home and all of the challenges that lockdown brings.

I know that it has been tough, and it has come with anxiety, stress and loss.

The lockdown has affected everybody, from our youngest who have missed birthday parties and seeing their friends every day, to our elders who have had to miss their regular family visits.

It has also had a significant effect on our local organisations and businesses and I really do acknowledge that we have a long way to go in recovering from this. We recognise this, and thank you.

I am grateful for all our community who have trusted the public health advice and have been prepared to cooperate with our public health social measures and give us the opportunity to get as many people protected as possible before we move forward.

It is you who have put us in the position we are in today, to lift our lockdown and take our first tentative steps forward.

Please enjoy reconnecting with family and friends, but please stay safe while doing so. We do still have a journey ahead of us.”

Tb to July when Tongan Samoan Brumbies rugby player, Siokapesi Palu, was one of only five from the ACT selected for national honours with 💯🙌🇦🇺🇼🇸🇹🇴

With some rugby fixtures delayed and schedules adjusted due to lockdown, let's hope we get to see more rugby action from our Canberra teams and PI players like Pesi in the near future! ⚡🔥

While much misinformation and mistrust around vaccinations circle online and in our communities, many Pacific Island countries are doing well to continue toward reaching their vaccination targets! 👏👏

It's of utmost importance that we can strive to continue doing the same here as Pasifika people in the Canberra community! 🙂

Although online misinformation may cause mistrust/misunderstanding around the validity of statistics surrounding the effects of the virus and/or vaccine; its clear to see that health protective measures work and vaccination is the best situation moving forward 🙌🙌🙌

Worst case scenario, if Canberra had a situation where huge numbers contracted covid and were hospitalised because of its complications; it may take a hospital bed away from those in need of urgent medical care e.g the elderly/disabled, cancer patients, individuals with other life threatening illnesses, and even those in need of life saving treatment and/or surgery 🙏 The burden on the healthcare system will be more overwhelmed than it already is, so let us keep safe during this already challenging time and give each other the best chance we can here in Canberra 🙌

Wherever possible, continue to support local business and check on loved ones regularly during this time, we got this Canberra! 🤍

Chief Minister Andrew Barr says he won't bend to pressure to open up early and doesn't want to be in the same position as the NSW and Victorian Premiers announcing daily COVID-related deaths.

"I do not want to stand at this podium and give glib 'this many people died today' like some of my colleagues have had to," he said at today's press conference.

"It's just distressing for everyone. And we can do better and we can vaccinate our community."

"Maybe I've been criticised, and we've got a couple of journalists here who are running that line, but maybe I just have a higher value on human life and protecting people. I'll plead guilty to that."
