Representing the bus industry at the TWU NSW - Transport Workers' Union National Council Dinner were BIC CEO Varenya Mohan-Ram and BIC Chair Anthony (Tony) Hopkins, alongside Executive Director of BusNSW, Threlkeld.
The event was opened by TWU National President Richard Olsen and Assistant National Secretary Emily McMillan. National Secretary Michael Kaine transport spoke passionately about protecting drivers in Australia, followed by the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The PM reminded the crowd of road freight, aviation and bus employers and union delegates alike of the call for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. "We have tried to shield Australians from the effects of the war by reducing the fuel excise by half and reducing the road user charge to zero," he said, adding that there is "more fuel in Australia than before the crisis."
The bus industry had fruitful conversations with TWU State Secretaries from SA, NSW, QLD, Vic/Tas and WA, as well as TWU bus organisers and delegates.
As BIC CEO Varenya Mohan-Ram confirmed: "The viability of this great industry requires us to work together for its betterment, for the workers and their families and the community who depends on us."
Our thanks to the TWU and its National Council for hosting us. π
