No Tango in the Spring in 2026. Sorry.

TLDR: we have not been able to get a suitable venue for Tango in the Spring 2026, so the next one will be in 2028.

A lot of you will already have planned around our uncertainty. But now it is definite: no Tango in the Spring in October 2026.

Every two years (except the Covid year) we have held Tango in the Spring at the fabulous Albert Hall in Canberra, in early October. We were keen to make it happen in 2026. But, Albert Hall is still in the throes of major renovations, and are not taking any 2026 bookings.

Finding a suitable alternative venue for the long weekend for 200-odd people, in peak spring wedding season, has proven impossible. So many enquiries, but no joy.

We are looking at running an alternative tango event in Canberra on the weekend of 2-5 October 2026. It would be much smaller than TISP, and probably only one or two nights. We’ll let you know as soon as we know.

We are sad that we can’t make TISP 2026 a reality, but we remain committed to a two-yearly festival in Canberra. No doubt we will see many of you at other Tango events around Australia in the meantime.

Tango in the Spring brings Argentine tango dancers to Canberra from across Australia and beyond every two years. We have had the same goal since we started in 2008: four days of social tango nirvana! For us, that means a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, good traditional tango music from experienced DJs, good sound quality, a comfortable and attractive venue with good lighting, and allocated seating for everyone. It has a reputation as a celebration of tango, with great music and lovely dancing.

Tango in the Spring 2026: on hold for now

TLDR: we don’t have a confirmed venue for TISP 2026, so it may not be happening.

We know interstate dancers especially often need to make plans and book accommodation many months ahead, so we are telling you what we know, and what we are planning.

Every two years we have held Tango in the Spring at the fabulous Albert Hall in Canberra, in early October. We really want to make it happen in 2026. But, Albert Hall is having major renovations, scheduled to finish mid-2026. They are not taking any 2026 bookings yet, so we cannot plan anything.

We have searched high and low for an alternative venue, but without success — getting a suitable venue with dance floor for the long weekend for 200-odd people, in peak wedding season, seems to be impossible.

There is still hope. Albert Hall might open 2026 bookings at any time, and we might get the venue for the weekend we want. If that happens with enough notice, we will leap into action and make it happen. Or another venue might materialise. But if not, there will be no TISP in 2026. We will be looking at alternative events.

But for now, we are sorry, but we all just have to wait and see.
