We invited Geelong great Billy Brownless to entertain us at the Seed Business 2026 Gala Dinner… and apparently sent him home as a new ambassador for seed!

On The Saturday Rub, Billy gave James Brayshaw, Damian Barrett and Bernie Vince a rundown on what he’d learned at Seed Business – including one very important fact: So much of what we eat, what we wear and even the great sporting grounds we play on starts with seed.

James wasn’t entirely convinced... “I thought sheep just ate grass?”

They do, JB. But where do you think the grass comes from? 😉

High-quality pasture seed grows the feed that supports our livestock industries. Seed grows the cotton and other fibres we wear. Seed starts the crops and fresh produce that become the food on our tables. And specialist turf seed helps create the surfaces used for sport and recreation across the country.

Seed really is the great enabler.

Thanks Billy for taking a little bit of Seed Business onto the airwaves – and helping us spread the word about an industry that might usually operate behind the scenes, but is all around us.

A huge thank you to the businesses that made up the Seed Business 2026 Exhibition.

Across two busy days in Melbourne, our exhibition space was a hub for conversations, demonstrations, new ideas and connections – giving delegates the opportunity to see the products, technology and services supporting seed businesses across Australia.

Our exhibitors also took centre stage for the Great Exhibitor Pitch Competition, with eight of the businesses given just a few minutes to make their case to the room.

Congratulations again to GTE Technology, voted our 2026 Great Exhibitor Pitch champions!

Most importantly, thank you to every one of our exhibitors for investing in Seed Business, sharing your expertise and being such an important part of the event.

We finished a fantastic few days in Melbourne by hitting the road to Ballarat for an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to GTE Technology’s new Innovation and Training Centre.

Delegates had the opportunity to see the latest in seed coating, optical sorting and seed cleaning technology in operation, as well as tour GTE’s Australian design and manufacturing facility and see how equipment moves from concept through to completion.

A huge thank you to the GTE Technology team for opening their doors, sharing their expertise and giving us such a great way to finish Seed Business 2026.

What a night to celebrate the people and businesses that make Australia’s seed industry what it is.

The Seed Business 2026 Gala Dinner brought us together for a fantastic evening, topped off by a sensational performance from Billy Brownless, who had the room thoroughly entertained.

Importantly, it was also our opportunity to recognise some outstanding contributions to our industry through the 2026 ASF Awards.

A fabulous first day of the Seed Business 2026 Convention and Exhibition in Melbourne.

From fertilizer and farming to food security, stewardship, economics and governance, our speakers brought expertise, fresh perspectives and plenty to think about across a packed Day 1 program.

The exhibition was buzzing throughout the day too, with plenty of conversations, connections and opportunities to catch up with the businesses and people supporting Australia’s seed industry.

A little friendly competition to kick off Seed Business 2026!

This year’s Seed Business Challenge put our delegates’ knowledge to the test with trivia – and congratulations go to Ed Harrod from Baker Seed Co, who emerged as our 2026 champion! A big thank you to Callahan Seed for once again sponsoring the Challenge and helping us start Seed Business with plenty of laughs.

From there, we moved into the Welcome Reception, bringing people from across the seed industry together to catch up with old friends, make new connections and settle in for the days ahead.

We spent a fantastic afternoon celebrating the women who contribute so much to Australia’s seed industry.

Our Women in Seed Lunch brought together people from across the industry for an afternoon of connection, conversation and plenty of laughs with the brilliant Claire Hooper.

Claire shared a funny and thoughtful take on the importance of nourishing ourselves with the essentials, fun and people, and making space for the things and relationships that keep us going.

A huge thank you to Claire for such an entertaining afternoon, and to AgEtal Pty. Ltd. for once again supporting Women in Seed and helping us continue to grow this important initiative.

Seed Business 2026 is underway in Melbourne!

We kicked things off with our Leadership Forum, led by agricultural sales and leadership specialist Georgia Stormont.

Through an interactive DISC session, delegates explored their own behavioural and communication styles, how they work with others, and how a better understanding of those differences can strengthen leadership, communication and teams.

There was plenty of discussion, a few lightbulb moments and perhaps a little more understanding of why some of our colleagues do the things they do!

Thank you to Georgia for an engaging and practical session, and to everyone who threw themselves into the morning.
