ANCAP Safety Ratings ANCAP SAFETY is your independent source of vehicle safety ratings. We crash test cars & publish star ratings. ANCAP recommends 5 star rated cars.

ANCAP safety ratings are available for thousands of new vehicle models & they’re free. Since 1993, ANCAP has published crash test results for a wide range of passenger and light commercial vehicle makes, models and variants sold in Australia and New Zealand. The more stars, the better the vehicle performed in ANCAP tests. To achieve a maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating, a vehicle must achieve the

highest standards in all test categories and feature advanced safety assist technologies. Accept nothing less.

The Toyota Hilux BEV has achieved a five-star ANCAP safety rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The battery electric ute delivered comparable safety performance to its diesel equivalents, with additional crash testing confirming battery integrity and high-voltage electrical system safety.

Spotlight on GAC AION V 🔦

Here’s the GAC Aion V taking on the full width frontal crash test. In this assessment, the entire width of the vehicle impacts a rigid barrier at 50km/h, testing restraint systems and occupant protection across both seating rows.

The GAC Aion V scored 7.54 out of 8 points in this test. Overall, it scored ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Many new car models can now detect and prevent crashes with cyclists.

As part of our crash avoidance testing, we look at how well different car models can react to cyclists. This includes instances where the cyclist crosses in front of the car; when the cyclist is travelling ahead of the car; and even when an approaching cyclist is obscured from view.

WHAT’S NEW IN 2026? 👀🚗🔥
Managing Fire Risk

From 2026, ANCAP will assess how EVs manage fire risk during and after a crash.

That means: ⚡ High-voltage batteries must remain stable and not lead to fire within critical timeframes ⚠️ Drivers must be alerted if a fire risk is detected post-crash.

Warnings must also be communicated during charging via the vehicle or even your phone.

The very first crash test to new 2026 criteria - done!
Notice the THOR adult male dummy seated in the front passenger seat. He’s new to this full width frontal test. The small adult female dummy remains as the driver, and there’s another small adult female seated in the 2nd row.
We’ll find out the fate of these three occupants once all of our testing on this model is complete.
