Well said by Ali France MP - we “couldn’t help but dance”!

One week ago, Parliament House came alive with our inaugural Social Health Summit, the first ever held in Australia. Over 250 health workers, community organisers, artists, and social innovators came together to reimagine the future of mental health and wellbeing.

With 1 in 3 Australians lonely each week, the message was clear across every speaker: services matter, but they’re not enough. Australia needs a social-health approach. That means rebuilding the places, relationships, and everyday rituals that hold communities together long before crisis hits.

Art is health.
Connection is prevention.
In this revolution, we dance.
And you can come dancing too.

Highlights of the day included:
- ARIA winner Holiday performing Dancing2 with Choir & ;
- Our wonderful Parliamentary Friendship Group Co-Chairs, .spender and – with 38 other MPs from all parties + Independents also taking time out of the busiest sitting day on record to join us (including wonderful and who are powerful social health advocates!)
- Our Panel - “What does a socially healthy future look like?” with , , Karen Li of , and moderated by ;
- Lightning talks from , , , , , , .
- The wonderful joy and colour of Scrubs!

Day 1 embodied the positive, solution-oriented movement we are building.

Highlights from the rest of the summit coming soon!

We don’t just have a loneliness problem in Australia. We have a connection problem. And connection is essential to health, wellbeing, and community resilience.

That’s why the Foundation for Social Health has partnered with .australia, with research expertise from , to launch the Creative Health Alliance Australia.

We want to empower those who are already working in creative health settings. We want to make this work visible, sustainable and embedded within the health system.

We have spent years diagnosing the reasons for the loneliness and social disconnection epidemic. We have documented the profound impact it’s having on the social and physical wellbeing of our entire community. Now it’s time to fund what works: and invest in community-based supports that meet people where they are. Creative health practitioners and organisations are an essential part of this.

If you believe connection should be a public health priority, and that ways of connecting that use our voices, bodies and imaginations are part of this, please help us spread the word - tag someone who’d want to know! We will be posting more updates soon about how you can take part in this project.
