Mr Doukas said Prerana’s experience in advocacy, strategic communications and senior leadership makes her the ideal person to lead FECCA into its next chapter. “Prerana is an inclusive, values-driven leader with a strong track record in stakeholder engagement, public policy and organisational leadership. Her commitment to equity, inclusion and community empowerment aligns strongly with FECCA’s mission and vision,” he said.

Prerana, a Zambian-born migrant of Indian heritage has built her career in senior executive roles with the Australian Government, private sector and NFPs across Vietnam, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore and Australia, said she was honoured to take on the role at a critical time for multicultural communities.

“It is a privilege to lead FECCA when the voices and experiences of multicultural communities matter more than ever. FECCA has a proud history of advocacy, and I look forward to working with our members, partners, government and communities to advance inclusion, equity and belonging for all. At a time when social cohesion is being tested - by rising racism and a national conversation about identity that is not always inclusive - this moment calls for leadership that is both strategically powerful and deeply human.”

FECCA looks forward to working with Prerana as the organisation continues to champion the rights, interests and aspirations of culturally and linguistically diverse communities across Australia. The appointment follows a competitive recruitment process that attracted a strong and diverse field of candidates nationally.

The Coalition's plan has been criticised by migrant advocacy groups, including the FECCA, which said in a statement last week that skilled migrants are essential to the country's productivity.

"Migrants contribute enormously to productivity, economic growth, and community life, but people must be supported through their settlement journey in order to fully participate and thrive, and to ensure the nation continues to prosper," Jill Morgan AM, interim CEO of FECCA said.

𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 (𝗡𝗥𝗪) runs each year from 𝟮𝟳 𝗠𝗮𝘆 - 𝟯 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 to commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝟭𝟵𝟲𝟳 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗺, and the 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗯𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 respectively.

The theme for NRW 2026 is 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗜𝗻, a call for all Australians to step away from the sidelines, commit to reconciliation and take action to make change.

FECCA stands with Australia’s First Nations Peoples in their journey for self-determination and reconciliation, and calls the Australian Government to establish the 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 to ensure a more inclusive and equitable future.

𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 acknowledges the Stolen Generations - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children forcibly removed from their families between the mid-1800s and 1980s, and marks the 𝟮𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁.

This year’s theme, 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, recognises the leadership, accountability and urgency required to deliver real change within survivors’ lifetimes.

FECCA stands in solidarity with Australia's First Nations peoples, and supports and advocates for culturally safe, community-led services, and the structural change needed to advance justice, healing and self-determination.

Attempts by the Coalition and One Nation to blame migrants for housing pressures are divisive, unsupported by evidence, and ignore the enormous contribution migrants have made and continue to make to Australia’s workforce, infrastructure, economy, and national development.

“Australia needs a balanced and evidence-based conversation about migration, housing, and economic development. Migration has helped build modern Australia. It has strengthened our economy, enriched our communities, and supported our national development.” - Peter Doukas OAM, Chair of FECCA.

“Migrants contribute enormously to productivity, economic growth, and community life, but people must be supported through their settlement journey in order to fully participate and thrive, and to ensure the nation continues to prosper.” - Jill Morgan AM, Interim CEO of FECCA.

FECCA calls on our political leaders to lead with responsibility, by upholding the bipartisan legacy of multiculturalism and refusing to trade social cohesion for short-term political advantage.

“We need to build cohesion not dismantle it. Our leaders are legitimising racism,” said Jill Morgan AM, Interim CEO - FECCA.

Racism is abhorrent. FECCA stands with all communities affected by the harmful, divisive and racist rhetoric expressed by our politicians and reaffirms the need to urgently adopt the National Anti-Racism Framework.
