What a fantastic market day we’ve had so far! A huge thank you to everyone who has come this morning and made it such a lovely experience for all, and especially to those who have stayed on for a cupa and a chat!

We have put into place a few additional measures following what happened in Cobden at the last market day. Everyone who has come today has been really respectful, calm and considerate.

We still have some items and fresh produce available (see photos) and we’re here (Camperdown Uniting Church Hall) until 11.30am; so if you haven’t visited already please come on down!

Our next Food Rescue Market day in Camperdown is coming up on Friday. Join us at the Camperdown Uniting Church Hall (24 Leura street). Bring along any of your own excess home grown produce to share and feel free to join us for a free cupa and a chat while visiting.

Despite what happened in Cobden recently, we are still committed to this initiative and believe in its importance and place in our community. We have made some adjustments that we hope will help create the safe and happy community atmosphere we wish market days to be. While additional measures are being put in place for the next Cobden market day, any unsociable behaviour will not be tolerated at any site, Camperdown inclusive.

What a blissful time it was on Tuesday evening for our final Winter Reset sound bath meditation for the year. A huge thank you to Cobden UC Op Shop for providing such a fantastic community space to hold this series and to Community Bank Cobden and Camperdown for sponsoring this series so we could provide affordable access. Taking time out to nourish oneself is so important and we don't often afford ourselves the opportunity. Thank you to everyone who came along and made this such a special experience and for providing such positive and encouraging feedback.

We are exploring holding ongoing monthly meditation sessions - if this is something you may be interested in, please let us know!

Lastly, we wish to acknowledge the tremendous asset and contributor to our community, Angela, for providing the opportunity for us all to benefit from your skills and kindness.

Cobden Food Rescue Market at risk due to poor behaviour.

In partnership with Cobden UC Op Shop, we held the most recent Food Rescue market last Friday 14th August at the Cobden UC Hall.

We designed this initiative to be a welcoming community event with the aim of redirecting food that was heading to landfill back into the community, both reducing food waste while also benefiting community with free food.

We ask very little of those attending market day, but being mindful and considerate of others is a non-negotiable.

We were shocked at the behaviour of many who came along to market day last Friday.

Instead of a calm and happy community event, it felt more like the stampedes of people trying to get bargains at the Myer stocktake sales of old.

There was no consideration of more vulnerable members of the community, especially those with mobility issues, who were put at risk of physical harm because of the rush to get inside.

There was also no consideration of the other people attending market day by how swiftly items were grabbed, especially stock in low supply.

This is unacceptable and completely at odds with the principles and purpose of this program.

Due to the significant nature of this behaviour, we have decided that this is the first and final warning: if this behaviour is to occur again, we will cease operating the Food Rescue Market program in Cobden.

The Food Rescue Market program is not a food relief or welfare service, it is a community based food waste reduction program. It is not designed to be fulfilling the needs of those in financial stress or food insecurity, there are other supports and services available to assist in those instances.

If you are in need of food relief, there are supports available, go to: https://camperdownch.com.au/services/foodbank/

If you are in need of financial support, please refer to the service information provided in this post. (see attached)
