ケアンズプロジェクトを振り返って

今回、ケアンズのプロジェクトに参加して、たくさんの人の優しさを受けていると感じました。
まず盆踊りです。私たちがブースで募金活動をしているとき、おつりを全て入れている人や商品を買わず募金箱にお金を入れるだけの人がいました。私はこれを見たとき、「優しさは世界共通」なのだと思いました。また、募金箱に入っているお金の大切さを改めて感じました。他にも、盆踊りを裏で支えてくださる方々への感謝の気持ちも強くなりました。
また、日常生活でも感じることができました。私が英語を理解していなくても分かる簡単な単語で話してくれたり車椅子の人のサポートをしていたり、とっても優しくて嬉しかったです。
今回、たくさんの優しさを感じられたので、これからは多くの人に優しさを届けられる人になりたいです。
また、今回盆踊りで行ったスピーチは、緊張したけれど、来ていただいている方々に「ありがとう」と「Thank you」の想いを伝えることができました。
今回、私たちがこのプロジェクトでオーストラリアに来ることができたのは、みなさんの支援のおかげです。
「本当にありがとうございます！」
今回のことをきっかけに日本でたくさんの優しさを届け、積極的にボランティアに参加していきたいです！
現地で学んだことを日本でたくさん話し、学んだことと一緒に東日本大震災の現状も伝えていきたいです。
まだたくさんの問題があるので、私もできるだけ協力し、放射線量を下げたり、帰還困難区域を減らしたりできるようにしたいです。
Looking Back on the Cairns Project

Participating in the Cairns Project this time made me feel that I am receiving the kindness of so many people.
First was the Bon Dance festival. When we were doing fundraising activities at our booth, there were people who put in all their change, or people who simply put money into the donation box without buying any products. Seeing this made me realize that "kindness is universal throughout the world." It also renewed my appreciation for the importance of the money placed in the donation box. In addition, my feelings of gratitude toward the people supporting the Bon Dance behind the scenes grew stronger.
I was also able to feel it in daily life as well. People spoke to me using simple words I could understand even though I didn't comprehend English, and they supported people in wheelchairs—they were so kind, and it made me very happy.
Having felt so much kindness through this experience, I want to become someone who can deliver kindness to many people from now on.
Also, although I was nervous during the speech I gave at the Bon Dance, I was able to convey my feelings of "Arigato" and "Thank you" to everyone who attended.
The reason we were able to come to Australia through this project is all thanks to everyone's support.

Taking this experience as an opportunity, I want to deliver plenty of kindness in Japan and actively participate in volunteer activities!
I want to talk a lot in Japan about what I learned [there], and share the current situation of the Great East Japan Earthquake alongside what I have learned.
Since there are [still] many issues, I want to cooperate as much as I can to help lower radiation levels and reduce difficult-to-return zones.

ケアンズで1週間過ごして

まず始めに、ケアンズに行って気付いたことは、とても自然豊かでゴミが1つも街中にないことに気が付きました。
家の前にゴミ箱が1つあり、そこにゴミを捨てられるようになっているからポイ捨ては全然ないんだと分かりました。
ゴミが街に1つもないことで、ワラビーや、オウムなどの野生動物がたくさん生活しているんだと思いました。野生の動物が、街をうろついているのは少しおどろきましたが、街をうろつけるのもゴミがなく、きれいだからだと思いました。
まささんの歴史の話をしてもらったときに
なぜ歴史を学ぶのか、2つ教えてもらいました。
1つ目は、人類が2度と同じ失敗をくり返さないようにするため。
2つ目は、次世代に物語をつないでいくという使命があるからだと言っていました。
2つ目のことは、原発事故のことを受けついでいくことと重なっていると思いました。
教訓は、物事を考える基準になる。歴史的な出来事になると聞かせることが大切だと言っていました。
オーストラリアの日本の戦争は3部構成で、
1．日本軍の先制攻撃。
2．豪・米軍の反転攻勢。
3．戦争が終わった後の3部構成でできていた、というのも言っていました。
そして、盆踊りのときのスピーチでは、たくさんの人の前で、1人でやるという大事な役目がありました。
初めはすごく緊張し、ドキドキで出来るか不安、という感じでした。
ですが、本番になってやると、いつのまにか心地よい緊張になり、その心地よい緊張はまたくないので、できてよかったです。
スピーチの前後で歌を歌いました。
「涙そうそう」と「花は咲く」です。
「涙そうそう」は7人で、「花は咲く」は全員で合唱しました。
合唱している隣で、書道家のはるとさんが「残花」という言葉を書いていました。
「はるさんはなぜ残花なのか」と聞くと、
「花は枯れてしまうが、優しさはその人の心の中に残り続けるから」
と言っていました。
震災の記録も、この言葉と同じように、次の世代の心に残るように伝えていきたいです。
最後に、ケアンズに来ていろんな人と会いましたが、会った人はほぼ全員が支持してくれた人だから、とても感謝しています。

My Thoughts After Spending One Week in Cairns
First of all, one thing I noticed when I came to Cairns was how incredibly rich in nature it is. I also noticed that there was not even a single piece of rubbish on the streets.
There is a rubbish bin in front of each house, and people can throw their rubbish away there. I realised that this may be one of the reasons why there is hardly any littering.
Because there is no rubbish on the streets, I think many wild animals, such as wallabies and cockatoos, are able to live around the town. I was a little surprised to see wild animals wandering around the streets, but I think they are able to do so because the town is clean and free from rubbish.
What I Learned from Masa-san's Talk About History
When Masa-san talked to us about history, he taught us two reasons why we study history.
The first reason is to make sure that humanity never repeats the same mistakes again.
The second reason is that we have a mission to pass stories on to the next generation.
I felt that the second reason was closely connected to the importance of passing on writings and poems about the atomic bomb.
He also said that lessons from history can become a foundation for the way we think about things, and that it is important to pass on and share historical events.
We also learned that the history of the war between Australia and Japan can be understood in three parts:
The initial attack by the Japanese military.
The counteroffensive by Australian and American forces.
The period after the war ended.
At the Bon Dance event, I had the important role of giving a speech by myself in front of many people.
At first, I was extremely nervous. My heart was pounding, and I felt worried about whether I would be able to do it.
However, once the actual event began, my nervousness gradually turned into a comfortable kind of tension. I was able to do it successfully, and I am very glad that I had the experience.
We sang songs before and after the speech.
The songs were “Nada Sousou” and “Hana wa Saku (Flowers Will Bloom).”
Six of us sang Nada Sousou, and everyone sang Hana wa Saku together as a choir.
Next to us, calligrapher Haru-san was writing the word “Zanka” (Lingering Flowers).
When I asked Haru-san why she chose the word Zanka, she said:
“Flowers may wither, but kindness continues to remain in people's hearts.”
I would also like to pass on the records and memories of the earthquake disaster so that, like these words, they will remain in the hearts of future generations.
Finally, I met many different people during my time in Cairns. I am very grateful because almost everyone I met supported us.

感想文
僕が感想に残ったことは、3つあります。
1つ目は、ケアンズの自然豊かな環境についてです。
ケアンズでは、早寝早起きが当たり前で、日常のルーティンらしくて、
毎日散歩やランニング、ジョギングしている人がたくさんいました。
毎日健康的な日常を過ごしていることにびっくりしました。
ケアンズの環境は、自然が豊かで、水や空気がおいしく、街がきれいで、
とても住みやすい街でした。
海もきれいで、山や海の風景が圧巻でした。
2つ目は、食文化です。
盆踊りでは、チャリティーブースがあり、いろいろな方々が来てくださいました。
メインステージでスピーチ発表があり、ケアンズに来る前から毎日練習してきたので、すごく緊張しました。
お客さんに「ありがとう」と感謝の気持ちを届けられて、力になれたことをすごくうれしく思いました。
3つ目は、支援してくださったみなさんです。
このプロジェクトでは、たくさんの支援でオーストラリアに行けたことに感謝しました。
原発事故と放射線の歴史のスピーチを、次の世代へつなげていきたいです。
Reflection
There are three things that left a strong impression on me.
The first was Cairns' beautiful natural environment.
In Cairns, going to bed early and getting up early seemed to be part of people's everyday routine. Many people went for walks, ran, or jogged every day.
I was surprised to see how healthy their daily lifestyles were.
Cairns has a rich natural environment. The water and air are fresh, the city is clean, and it is a very comfortable place to live.
The ocean was also beautiful, and the view of the sea was breathtaking.
The second was the food culture.
At the charity event, many different people came to visit us.
There was also a speech presentation on the main stage. I had practised every day before coming to Cairns, so I was very nervous.
However, I was very happy that I was able to share my feelings of gratitude and say “Thank you” to the people who came. I was also happy to know that I could contribute in some way.
The third was the people who supported us.
I am very grateful for all the support that made it possible for us to travel to Australia and take part in this project.
I would like to continue sharing the stories and history of the nuclear power plant accident and radiation with the next generation.

私たち福島の子どもたちのためにケアンズにお招きいただき、本当にありがとうございます。皆さまのおかげで、私は3年前には参加者として、そして今回はボランティアとしてこのプログラムに参加することができました。
国内外から、どこの誰かもわからない私たち福島県民の復興のため、そして子どもたちが外で自由に遊べる機会を作るために、多くの方々が温かく受け入れてくださりました。震災は悲しい思い出ですが、震災がなければ出会えなかった方々との強い絆に触れることができました。
幼い頃に見た東日本大震災の津波の映像が強く印象に残っていた私にとって、海はずっと「怖いもの」でした。しかし、フランクランド島や世界遺産のグレートバリアリーフでシュノーケリングをし、様々な種類のサンゴを見たりウミガメと遭遇できたりしたことで、「海はこんなにも美しいのだ」と心から感動しました。海で思い切り遊び、自然と触れ合えたことは素晴らしい経験となり、優しく接してくださった現地の方々への感謝の気持ちでいっぱいになりました。
今回はKidsたちの引率やサポートも経験させていただきました。相手に合わせて言葉を選び、分かりやすく伝えることの難しさも実感しましたが、彼らのレポートを見たときに深く感動しました。支援してくださる方々のお話から一人ひとりが学び、震災を直接経験していない世代であるにもかかわらず、震災への想いや自分の考えがしっかりとまとまっていて、とても優秀だなと感じました。スピーチや掃除、料理、英語力などが日に日に上達していく彼らの吸収力には圧倒され、この1週間での大きな成長を実感しました。こうした子どもたちがこれからもっと増えていくよう、私自身も全力でサポートしていきたいと強く思いました。
私はこのプロジェクトに参加する前から、人の役に立てる医療従事者を目指して勉強に励み、現在は薬学部に進学しています。オーストラリアで支援者の方々にお会いし、一人ひとりが熱意を持って積極的に行動している姿を見て、「オーストラリアに行く前よりも、はるかに人の役に立てる人間になりたい」と強く思いました。今後は支援する側に回り、このプロジェクトを継続させるために自分ができることをしていきたいです。そして将来は、患者さんに心から寄り添える薬剤師を目指します。
多くの方々の温かいご支援のおかげで、このような素晴らしい経験と成長の機会をいただくことができました。本当にありがとうございました。
Thank you so much for inviting us to Cairns for the Fukushima Kids Program.
Thanks to the support and kindness of so many people, I was able to participate in this program three years ago as a participant, and this time, I had the opportunity to return as a volunteer.
People from both Japan and overseas warmly welcomed and supported us—people from Fukushima whom they had never met before—in order to help with the recovery of our community and to provide children with opportunities to play freely outdoors. The earthquake and tsunami are painful memories, but through this tragedy, I have also been able to experience the strong bonds and connections with people whom I might never otherwise have met.
