Ever wondered where the money from your weekend Bunnings snag actually goes? 🌭

Recent figures from Bunnings show Australians raised and contributed more than $2.9 million for Rotary through 2,450 Bunnings activities across the country in FY26, with the majority being sausage sizzles.

That’s a lot of sausages, onions and tomato sauce doing a whole lot of good.
For Rotary clubs across Australia, the sausage sizzle is more than a weekend tradition. The money raised goes back into communities, helping local volunteers support ⤵️

💛 Families doing it tough
🧠 Mental health initiatives
🌱 Young people and local programs
🤝 Community-led projects
🏠 Communities recovering from fires, floods and other disasters

And recently, a few familiar Rotary faces even took the story to Channel 9’s Today Show, shining a light on just how much impact can come from something as simple as firing up the barbecue.

Every snag bought and every volunteer behind the BBQ adds up.
Turns out, the humble Bunnings snag goes a lot further than lunch 🌭💛

What an incredible evening!

Last night, 105 people joined us for the Rotary Tropical North Queensland Alumni & Friends Evening, including 52 guests who are not currently Rotarians.

We were delighted to welcome former members, Rotary program participants, community partners, beneficiaries, volunteers, supporters and friends from across our region. The room was filled with great conversations, new connections, shared stories and a genuine celebration of Rotary's impact throughout Cairns and Tropical North Queensland.

A highlight of the evening was seeing Rotarians from all five Cairns clubs gathered together, alongside alumni and community members, demonstrating what Rotary is really about: people from all walks of life coming together to create lasting change in their communities and around the world.

A special thank you to Anna Middleton Councillor -Cairns Regional Council, Cathy Zeiger - Div. 3 Councillor, Cairns Regional Council, Rhonda Coghlan - Div. 8 Councillor, Cairns Regional Council for joining us on the evening. Their attendance highlighted the strong connections between Rotary and Cairns Regional Council, and our shared commitment to building a stronger community.

One of the key messages from the night was simple:

You don't have to do everything. Just do what you can, when you can.

Rotary isn't about meetings.

It's about people, projects and purpose.

Whether your passion is supporting young people, helping families, raising funds, serving your community, developing leadership skills, or contributing to international projects, there is a place for you.

Thank you to everyone who attended, our speakers, volunteers and the members of all five Cairns Rotary clubs who helped make the evening such a success.
