Big congratulations to Tarae as she begins her new traineeship in Business Development with CEQ 👏

Originally from Hope Vale, Tarae completed Year 12 at Peace Lutheran College through the Cape York Leaders Program two years ago. Since then, she has been working as an Assistant Nurse in Aged Care at Cooktown Hospital, gaining valuable experience and building her confidence before stepping into this exciting new role.

“I’m excited and a little nervous to begin this new chapter, but I’m really looking forward to joining the CEQ team,” Tarae said.

At School to Jobs, we’re proud to support young people like Tarae as they take the next step toward their career goals. From strengthening her CV to preparing for interviews, our team has been alongside Tarae throughout the process, and we’ll continue supporting her during her traineeship journey.

𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 👏

Last Tuesday, our Years 10–12 students from Djarragun College had the opportunity to connect with the Rio Tinto Weipa team and learn more about careers in mining 👏

Nicole Bobongie, Community Engagement Adviser and Marvin Bell, Indigenous Employment and Development Advisor, alongside Jordon Harding from Lockhart River, Yesha Lifu from New Mapoon and Kai Koomeeta from Aurukun, shared their personal journeys into the industry and what their roles with Rio Tinto look like today.

Hearing directly from local role models helps young people build confidence, strengthen connections and see clearer pathways into future employment opportunities.

𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 ✨

School to Jobs and Mayi Market team members Amelia and Karl recently travelled to Perth on Whadjuk Land to attend the 2026 Ignite Our Future: Purpose & Pathways Summit with Indigenous leaders from across the country.

The Summit was run by Jawun and hosted by the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council (SWALSC), a company owned by the local Noongar Nation. The event focused on leadership, partnerships and creating meaningful opportunities for communities and young people.
Amelia and Karl shared stories and insights from Cape York programs and explored how strong partnerships can help build long-term change.

These conversations continue to reinforce the importance of practical pathways that support young people and families to grow confidence, strengthen capability and pursue the futures they choose.

It was also a great opportunity to connect with leaders from across Australia and experience some of Perth’s well-known landmarks including Matagarup Bridge, Optus Stadium and RAC Arena 🌿

𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀: 𝗗𝗷𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗘𝗤 🙌

Last week, Djarragun College students from Years 10 to 12 got a behind-the-scenes look at how CEQ keeps communities across Cape York and the Torres Strait stocked and connected.

During their visit to CEQ’s head office, warehouse and distribution centre in Gimuy (Cairns), students explored the many moving parts behind IBIS and ABIS stores and learned about career opportunities in retail, logistics, procurement and administration.

Hearing directly from CEQ staff gave students valuable insight into the teamwork, systems and people that keep operations running every day.

Experiences like this help young people build confidence, explore future pathways and make meaningful connections with employers.

Kevisani Daniel is currently in Year 12 at St Peter's Lutheran College in Brisbane and is making the most of every opportunity through the Cape York Leaders Program scholarship.
Alongside school, he’s completing a school-based traineeship with Rio Tinto while studying a Certificate II in Workplace Skills 🔧

Originally from Weipa, Kevisani is working towards his dream of becoming a Diesel Fitter after graduation. His hard work, focus and determination are setting him up for a strong future and we can’t wait to see where his journey takes him 🚜💪

Last Thursday, Djarragun College students from Years 10 to 12 stepped out of the classroom and into Brothers Cairns to see what different careers can really look like.

From the kitchen to bar service, management and other services, students got a behind-the-scenes look at the industry and heard directly from employers about what it takes to get started and grow.

A big thank you to the Brothers team for sharing their time and experience, especially Lisa for the tour and CEO Ed Camilleri for welcoming the group and offering valuable insights.
