The Case Management Society of Australia (CMSA) defines case management as "...a process, encompassing a culmination of consecutive collaborative phases, that assist clients to access available and relevant resources necessary for the client to attain their identified goals. Key phases within the case management process include: client identification (screening), assessment, stratifying risk, plan
ning, implementation (care coordination), monitoring, transitioning and evaluation." Within the case management process "...the Case Manager navigates each phase of the case management process (as applicable) with careful consideration of the client's individual, diverse and special needs, including aspirations, choices, expectations, motivations, preferences and values, and available resources, services and supports." (The National Standards of Practice for Case Management, 3rd Revised Edition 2013)
CASE MANAGEMENT SOCIETY OF AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND (CMSA)
The CMSA, established in 1996, is the national registration & regulatory body for Certified Case Managers™ & peak body for professionals employed in case management roles (practical, managerial or theoretical) within academia, health, education, research, welfare, social & human service settings & in independent practice within Australia & New Zealand. The Society aims to promote the National Standards of Practice for Case Management (3rd Revised Edition, 2013) and the National Code of Ethics for Case Management (2nd Edition, 2013) as the national minimum practice standard (benchmark) for all practitioners and agencies within Australia and New Zealand. CMSA is committed to the advancement of the national and international profile and practice of contemporary case management and actively supports research, systematic evaluation practices and professional training and development opportunities and is the national regulatory and registration body for Certified Case Managers™ within Australia and New Zealand. Our commitment to quality case management extends to our membership (individuals and agencies) who agree to read, understand, utilise and apply the CMSA National Standard of Practice for Case Management (3rd Revised Edition, 2013) and CMSA National Code of Ethics for Case Management (2nd Edition, 2013) within their day-to-day professional interactions with colleagues, the community, consumers and/or representatives, key stakeholders and employer. It is our belief that compliance to the same will afford our many members (individuals and agencies National & International) with the foundational platform in meeting the recognised national practice standard ("benchmark of excellence") for case managers within Australia and New Zealand and provide further endorsement as to the veracity, integrity and fidelity of the profession of case management. The CMSA acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the Maori people as the indigenous people and traditional owners of Australia and New Zealand. The CMSA acknowledges and supports the rights of both Indigenous peoples to self determination and cultural expression.
