The Brain Awareness Centre is now PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our beautiful community for your unwavering support over the past two years. Together, we have shone a light on the hidden disability of brain injury through open conversations and impactful presentations. Your dedication has helped us support individuals affected by brain injury and their loved ones, especially through our regular Mindful Mornings. Most importantly, with your help, we have paved the way for a dedicated hub focused on the unique needs of those recovering from brain injury. Thank you for being part of this journey and making a real difference!

With both pride and a touch of sadness, we are now passing the torch to those who will continue and expand upon the foundation we have laid. If you are seeking information or support in the Moreton Bay region—

We encourage you to connect with:

Ask R U OK?

Any Day because life happens every day.

Thursday 11 September is R U OK? Day

But we know that whether it’s a friend, family member, partner, or colleague, the people around us go through life’s ups and downs every day. That’s why we want everyone to feel confident to check in with the people they care about and ask R U OK? Any Day.

Research found that those who are regularly asked, 'Are you OK?' report increased feelings of well-being, and that a third of Australians say they've been asking others more often over the past year. That means many of us are already showing up for others in meaningful ways, but when it comes to conversations about how we’re really going, some people are less confident than others.
It’s natural to feel a little hesitant, but the good news is nine in ten Australians report feeling grateful, supported and cared for when someone genuinely asks them if they're OK - and that’s a good reason to give it a go. You might even be having these conversations already without realising.
If you need tips to build your confidence, we’re here to help with plenty of free resources to help you feel more confident to check in with someone you care about. You’ve got this, and we’ve got your back.

Hello from Hervey Bay!
Today The Brain Awareness Centre had the pleasure and privilege of participating in the very first Sock it to Brain Injury campaign! With the gorgeous Frazer Coast as the backdrop, and the sun rising on a beautiful new day, Yolande, the founder of Brain Net Inc. , shared her vision to create greater awareness around the difficulties and limitations that can come with acquired brain injury by asking each person to put sock on their dominant hand for 1 hour. With the support of the fantastic Park Run community here in Hervey Bay, and socks on their dominant hand, runners may have left with personal best times on their mind, but returned with a greater insight into what life might be like when actions that are normal and easy become awkward and frustrating due to the sock. Their insights have started conversation and consideration for those on the long and often frustrating road to recovery after a brain injury.
The challenge- should you choose to accept, is to wear your sock on your hand for 1 hour and experience the limitations that often come after a brain injury.
Please take up the challenge and share your experience.
