My little one recently celebrated her 4th birthday and requested a princess cake… I rose to the challenge and created an allergy free cake for her and her friends to enjoy!

Please don’t feel that because you or a loved one has allergies that they can’t have fun food too…

PART 3 What it looks like when eating out in the UK 💛

🍽️ One of the amazing impacts of Natasha’s Law is how it changes the dining experience for people with food allergies in the UK.

When eating out:
✅ Allergens are clearly listed on menus and in display cabinets.
✅ Some restaurants provide QR codes you can scan to see full allergen information for each menu item.
✅ If you have a food allergy, a trained allergy-aware server will take your order and serve you to reduce miscommunication.
✅ Kitchens often have designated areas for preparing specific foods to prevent cross-contamination.

This level of awareness and care gives allergy families confidence, peace of mind, and a safer dining experience.

PART 2 What is Natasha's Law? 💛

Natasha’s Law, which came into effect in the UK in October 2021, requires that all pre-packed foods for direct sale (PPDS) clearly list all ingredients and allergens.

Foods affected include sandwiches, salads, baked goods, or any items prepared and packaged on-site before being sold. Allergens such as milk, eggs, peanuts, sesame, and others must be clearly highlighted in bold.

The law gives people with allergies confidence and safety when buying pre-packed foods — no more guessing or hidden ingredients.

PART 1 💔 The Story Behind Natasha’s Law

Natasha Ednan-Laperouse was just 15 when she suffered a fatal allergic reaction to sesame in a baguette that didn’t list the ingredient on the label. At the time, the law didn’t require businesses to label allergens on foods made and packaged on-site.

Her parents, Tanya and Nadim, channelled their grief into action — campaigning tirelessly for stronger food labelling laws. Their courage led to a powerful legacy: Natasha’s Law, named in her honour.

Thanks to their advocacy, millions of people with food allergies now have clearer information — and greater safety — when buying food in the UK.

👻🎃 Happy Halloween from Allergy Advocates WA!

For many kids, Halloween is all about treats - but for families managing food allergies, it can be a little tricky (pun intended 😉).

Here are a few easy ways to make Halloween safer and more inclusive:

🍬 Offer non-food treats - stickers, bubbles, glow sticks, crayons.
🌈 Look for or display a Teal Pumpkin - it shows you have allergy-friendly options!
🧁 If you’re baking, keep allergens separate and label clearly.
💬 And most importantly, remind little ghosts and ghouls: always check with a grown-up before eating anything.

This Halloween, let’s make sure every child can join in the fun safely! 👻💛

Displaying a teal pumpkin on your doorstep shows you have non-food or allergy-friendly treats available — a simple way to make trick-or-treating more inclusive for children with food allergies.

The Teal Pumpkin Project began in the U.S. through the Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) organisation and is now recognised worldwide as a symbol of allergy awareness and inclusion. 🌏💛

We’ve also shared some extra tips on how you can make Halloween safe and fun for kids with allergies — check them out!
