🎬 If you’re heading to CinefestOZ this year, put Sweet Milk Lane on your list. 🏳️‍⚧️

Selected as one of the four finalists for the $100,000 CinefestOZ Film Prize, Sweet Milk Lane was written, directed and stars transmasculine filmmaker Harvey Zielinski, this tender comedy-drama follows Jake, a young trans man who returns to his regional hometown, only for his terminally ill father to mistake him for his cisgender twin brother. Jake decides to go along with the confusion, setting up a story about identity, masculinity, family, belonging and the lengths we sometimes go to be accepted.

Check our the CinefestOZ website to get your ticket to the red carpet premiere on Wednesday 2 September, or the showing on Saturday 5 September - https://cinefestoz.com

💜 Wear It Purple Day 💜

Today, on Wear It Purple Day, we celebrate and support LGBTQIA+ young people, recognising their strength, resilience, and right to feel safe, supported, and proud of who they are.

For LGBTQIA+ young people living in regional communities, finding connection and belonging can sometimes be more challenging. Smaller communities often mean fewer opportunities to meet other LGBTQIA+ people, limited access to dedicated support services, and concerns about visibility, privacy, or acceptance. These challenges can leave young people feeling isolated, even when they are surrounded by caring family, friends, and allies.

This is why supporting young people has been a key focus for Busselton Pride Alliance. Over the past year, we've made deliberate changes to help create more opportunities for young people to connect with our community. We've shifted many of our events to The People Place, making them more accessible and welcoming for younger attendees. This includes our Pride Perspectives Book & Media Club and half of our Board Games Nights, providing spaces where young people can build friendships, see themselves reflected in our community, and know they are not alone.

We know that visibility matters. Safe spaces matter. Community matters. On Wear It Purple Day, we celebrate the incredible LGBTQIA+ young people in our region and reaffirm our commitment to creating opportunities for connection, inclusion, and belonging.

To every LGBTQIA+ young person in our community: you are valued, you belong, and you deserve to be exactly who you are. 💜

😢 Saying goodbye to another true q***r icon.

Tim Curry gave the world Dr Frank-N-Furter in the classic Rocky Horror Picture Show and challenged everything we were told about gender, sexuality and how we were supposed to present ourselves. Tim Curry played that character with such confidence and unapologetic theatricality that generations of q***r people saw a place to celebrate being different, strange, fabulous and unapologetically yourself.

That legacy matters. Representation can give people permission to imagine a life beyond the expectations placed on them. Thank you, Tim Curry, for helping make being different something to celebrate. 💕

Dolly Parton’s legacy is so much bigger than music.

Dolly understood that kindness means doing something. She put books into the hands of children through her Imagination Library, supported communities through mutual aid, and funded medical research. She stood with people living with HIV, championed marriage equality, rejected religious judgment of q***r people, defended transgender rights, and embraced drag culture.

She believed in children, in science, in medicine, and in the fundamental worth of people who are too often pushed to the margins.

An amazing legacy. Rest in peace, Dolly. 💕
