On Friday 31 July 2026, AMPARO Advocacy attended and gave evidence at the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee's public hearing into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026, in Canberra.

AMPARO Advocacy was represented by Senior Systemic Advocate Ange Boyd, alongside Management Committee members Francy Molina and Grace Cruz, who spoke from their own experience as women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds with disability.

AMPARO supports a sustainable, safe NDIS, and supports genuine measures to strengthen its integrity. Our evidence to the Committee was clear: as currently drafted, this Bill does not adequately consider the specific needs of people from CALD backgrounds with disability, and risks further disadvantaging them.

In the year to March 2026, 66% of CALD applicants met NDIS access requirements, against 83% for everyone else. That gap already exists, before any of this Bill's changes take effect.

We raised concerns including whole-person, culturally safe assessment, rather than a single snapshot; contact and suspension processes that genuinely reach people, not just an unanswered call or an English-only letter; no blanket assumptions about what family or mainstream supports can provide; and individual need — not blanket cuts — determining funding for social and community participation.

AMPARO Advocacy was proud to attend the Colours of Ipswich Multicultural Unity Festival recently. We couldn't think of a better person to represent AMPARO on the day than Cari one of our Multicultural Engagement Workers.

Cari always lights up our days, whether it be with a vibrant new hair colour, a colourful outfit, or a well-timed joke that makes us smile.

On the day Cari met with many people in the community, and people who AMPARO collaborates with. Cari was also able to meet with Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding and Council members, including Councillor Pye Augustine, who was an enthusiastic supporter of the event.

We are so grateful for the work Cari does for AMPARO, and glad that she could be there to represent us and make connections in the Ipswich community.

Thank you to all involved in the planning and organisation of the festival. It was an honour for AMPARO to be present at such a dynamic local event.

AMPARO Advocacy was proud to attend the Luminous Lantern Parade at South Bank on Friday 31 July, joining thousands of community members in a vibrant celebration of culture, connection and belonging.

It was a truly amazing evening, with participants carrying beautiful lanterns that reflected the diverse stories, traditions and experiences that make Queensland such a rich and welcoming community.

The event brought people together from many different backgrounds and served as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion, respect and celebrating multiculturalism.

Throughout the night, attendees enjoyed a range of cultural performances, community activities and opportunities to connect with others.

The atmosphere was filled with warmth, joy and a strong sense of community as we celebrated the contributions of people from across the world who now call Queensland home.

AMPARO Advocacy was delighted to be part of this special event and to stand alongside the people we support and the community in recognising the strength that diversity brings to our communities.

This NAIDOC Week, AMPARO Advocacy proudly supports the self-determination, autonomy, rights and interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability, and their families.

We acknowledge the enduring connection to Country, community, family and culture, and recognise the ongoing impact of historical and systemic injustices.

We strongly support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations leading advocacy in the disability sector.

As advocates, we are committed to listening, learning and walking alongside First Nations peoples in the pursuit of equality, inclusion and self-determination. We recognise that meaningful reconciliation requires more than words. It requires action, respect and a willingness to be led by and guided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and leadership.

We reflect on our shared responsibility to create communities where every person is valued.

Together, we look forward to a future where First Nations voices are heard and valued, and where respect, inclusion and opportunity are shared by all.

Understanding the NDIS: Free Community Workshop

AMPARO Advocacy is excited to partner with Carers Queensland for the very first time to deliver a joint workshop designed to help people better understand the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

This workshop is ideal for people who are:
Looking to access the NDIS
Currently applying for the NDIS
Already have an NDIS plan and want to better understand available supports

We are committed to making this event accessible and inclusive. You can indicate your preferred language on the registration form, allowing us to arrange an interpreter to be present for you.

Representatives from Carers Queensland's Local Area Coordination (LAC) team will also be present to answer questions and provide guidance tailored to individual circumstances.

Last week, AMPARO staff members Cari and Ruvimbo attended the BELONG Health and Wellbeing Expo in Ipswich, where they had the opportunity to connect with community members and local organisations. They were also delighted to run into AMPARO member Konde Ngoma.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day possible. It was a wonderful opportunity for AMPARO to be out in the community, strengthening connections, building relationships, and sharing information about our services. We look forward to continuing these valuable community partnerships.

Francy Molina is a proud Columbian woman and a member of Amparo Advocacy’s Inclusive Leadership Network. Living with disability, Francy is a strong advocate and community member who is passionate about inclusion, connection and making a contribution. She brings warmth, determination and a strong sense of purpose to everything she does.

Francy will share her personal story of building a good life, the incredible challenges she has faced along the way, and the importance of belonging, relationships and staying true to your vision.

AMPARO Advocacy staff member Hailey recently presented in vietnamese to the MyTime–Richlands group. The group is hosted at Inspire Youth and Family Service where many local vietnamese families attend.

It was a great opportunity to share information about AMPARO and connect with local families.

MyTime is delivered by Play Matters Australia, and supports parents and carers of children with disability, developmental delay, or chronic medical conditions.

We are so grateful to be able to share our work with the community in such a welcoming space.

AMPARO Advocacy was proud to attend the 'Flavours of Hope' lunch hosted by RAILS, represented by staff members Venantie and Ruvimbo, alongside Management Committee member Francy.

Thank you to RAILS and all involved for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful event.

It was wonderful to connect with some of the RAILS President Gayan Mendis and CEO Malathi Kanagasabapathy, who shared their commitment to working closely with AMPARO to support culturally and linguistically diverse people with disability. We also had a lovely moment of continued connection at the event with Charis Mullen MP, who recently heard Venantie's story at a Refugee Week presentation.

'Flavours of Hope' showcased the power of collaboration, compassion, and community — all while supporting RAILS’ vital work providing free legal services to people seeking safety.
