The Big Three. Strive, Thrive and Live

The Big Three. Strive, Thrive and Live Growing up disadvantaged. Child abuse. Gangs. Addiction. Su***de and finding self love. TB3:S.T.L For me its personal. I replied " because he loved me like a father".

The Big 3 is giving my all to help raise awareness for those who live in dark and lonely places. With the support of family friends and communities i will be raising awareness for child abuse and neglect by taking on big challenges - My sweat for their tears. I grew up thinking in a world where by the time I had left high school that domestic, physical and sexual abuse was " normal". At the age o

f 7 my twin sister and I where left with our father and by all who knew him loved and thought highly of him. But he had come from a childhood of his own demons and with no foundation of knowledge of coping and managing his emotions became physically abusive. At times we where not able to attend swimming lessons due to the welts on our bodies from the punishment we had been given from not complying or understanding the demands given to us and with a childhood he himself suffered he to suffered onto us. At the age of 11 we where given to our uncle for a weekend for which after him leaving it would be years before we even knew he was alive. But then at the age of 13 our mother came back and took us in. But with no knowledge of how to deal with children emotionally lost and guarded against trust other than with ourselves, she couldn't cope and by the time we where 15, we where left to the streets to fend for ourselves. I ended up staying with an unknown pa******le and had endured things that a young child would never comprehend or know when all the world had given him was disillusion and mistrust that this is what he deserved. Rescued by an aunt and uncle, we went to court and when his lawyer asked " why did you stay with this man after what he was doing to you"? I knew no more, I knew no less. A few years later after finishing work in a bar a local and I took home a couple of woman. After a few hours the front door is broken into and a man has stormed the house and repeatedly stabs my friend. He later dies from bleeding in the lungs. A while later I was caught up with the wrong people, I was arrested under the assumption I had committed a crime. With the thought of a impending prison sentence, I saw no reason to live. I had 3 children to 3 different mothers and I was loved by none of them all due to the emotional walls I had against them. So, I decided life was pointless if the only direction I was going was a cell. So, the night before my court date I swallowed as many prescription drugs I could find. In the morning when I awoke croggy and dazed. Angry and confused I drove to a irrigation store, brought some tubing and found a empty house and parked my car in the garage. When the hose kept melting and I repeatedly couldn't get it to stay in the exhaust pipe I decided to drive off a cliff. On the way to the top I was pulled over by police officers who then took me to the hospital where I spent 2 days in a hyperbaric chamber to remove all carbon waste from my body. After

Reading cards, Trains and Bikes.

Not everything can be taught in schools or Technology.
The traits and attributes we learn to develop come from understanding frustration and wanting to persist despite it.

Emotional regulation, Intelligence and Perspective can come from tragedy and a negative life experience, or it can start with a father, a role model or someone who was present and turned it into a positive life experience.

Where expectations are set by time and grades,  mine are set by me and how I meet him where he is.

He will be forever falling off his bike and I will be forever watching him get back up

Read cards
Ride trains
Get back up on your bike.

I love you son

Mental health will be the talk of the evening at a special Movember event this month at the Logan Hyperdome Library.
The event, Breakthrough Movember, will be led by guest speakers Corey Lum from the Logan East Community Neighbourhood Association and Hayden Esparon from the Kingston East Neighbourhood Group (KENG), who will share their lived experiences and encourage other men to “speak up, seek support and empower one another”.

I can be found Monday - Friday, beside the other Team members supporting Logan Region community members. Being a Community Connect Worker means offering Logan based Supports and Services that work towards positive outcomes to people who present in crisis, issues or for service navigation.

Mens Sheds and Leather.

When it comes to Men's Sheds the mind can wander to what actually goes on inside these places of many trades?

Jim, Kevin and Terry down at Beenleigh District Men's Shed where telling me about a couple of special projects but none more amazing then helping modify and make an addition to a wheel chair with a Lower Extremeity Amputee Support to make freedom of movement and community access more comfortable.

Here, I am handing over some donated leather work tools. I know right! Yes, repairs and custom leather work, donated lawn mowers are reconditioned and given to community members as well as working in the metal shop.

If you or someone you know has a skill they would like to learn or utilise what skills they have and connect with like minded males, then I could not recommend finding your local Men's Shed enough.

What a mix of connections.

I go because there is years of life experience to learn from and like me, single dads looking for advice or how they are going navigating life as a dad and as a single male.

Plus, my wee man gets a big breakfast at the end of it.

Walk, Talk, Connect

Men’s Walk & Talk Redlands

Men’s Walk & Talk is a simple concept about men supporting each other in a healthy environment. We encourage men to open up about how they really feel while walking, talking and connecting to other men and building stronger communities as we go.

Myself and Volunteers from LECNA had the pleasure of donating tables for art and crafts as well as some fantastic sit down and ride on carts for the children at Kiwi Kids child care centre in Logan.
Utilising Maori Indigenous knowledge, Australian standard curriculum and duty of care enables families who want to continue their children's knowledge of Maori Language and traditions at this Logan based child care centre.

Strengthening self identity, connectedness to land and implementing Bilingual languages engages intrinsic and extrinsic rewards and increases self worth that benefits the children and the community.

We where all blowen away by how welcome we felt and appreciated how well facilitated Kiwi Kids is in the most unassuming locations. (Driven by many times and never noticed the site).

Kiwi Kids Child Care is open to all community members and welcomes enquiries if you are new to the area or would like to know how this Child Care could benefit you or someone you know reach out via the links below.
