Designed especially for our classic and vintage Vespa enthusiasts, along with our 50cc moped riders, this easy-paced ride is all about enjoying the journey, meeting fellow scooter enthusiasts, and wrapping up with a coffee by the bay. ☕🌊

Last weekend, not one but TWO groups of Vespa riders from Vespa Club Brisbane headed west to the small Queensland town of Condamine. One group on classic 2-strokes, the other on modern Vespas, proving that no matter what you ride, adventure is always waiting just beyond the horizon.

With a journey of around 5–6 hours each way, the trip wasn’t without its challenges. Along the road we dodged kangaroos (both dead and alive!), snakes, an echidna, potholes, cows, and more than a few stretches of dirt road. We even managed to run out of fuel once, resulting in an impromptu refuelling stop on the side of the highway. Just another story to add to the weekend’s collection.

Safe to say the locals were probably a little more accustomed to seeing road trains rolling through town than a convoy of Vespas, and both groups attracted plenty of curious looks along the way.

Some memorable moments from the trip included one scooter suffering an unfortunate breakdown on the side of the highway and requiring a rescue mission. A huge shout-out goes to Greg, who rode all the way back to Brisbane, collected a car and trailer, then drove all the way back out west to rescue the stranded Vespa and bring it home. That’s club spirit at its finest.

Another highlight came when one rider confidently selected what appeared to be the “least wet and muddy path” across a boggy section. Unfortunately, the laws of physics had other ideas. What followed was a slow-motion descent into the mud, closely followed by a second rider who stalled their scooter while rushing over to help the sinking Vespa. As spectators, it was absolutely hilarious. As participants, perhaps a little less so!

Of course, no trip to Condamine would be complete without a photo with the famous Condamine Bell, for which the region is well known, along with the iconic Condamine town sign. Be sure to check out the photos and see if you can spot the infamous “trailer of shame” carrying our lone breakdown victim home.

Trips like this remind us that Vespas can take you far beyond the city limits. Some people see them as scooters for short trips to the shops. We see them as tickets to unexpected places, country towns you might never otherwise visit, great mateship, and stories you’ll be telling for years to come.

Condamine certainly put on a show. Between the welcoming country pub, beautiful river views, and campdraft action in town, there was plenty to enjoy. It’s a thriving little community and well worth a stop if you ever find yourself travelling through western Queensland.
