Innocents Relief Innocents Relief is a volunteer-staffed organisation providing education for children in developing countries since 1962.

Innocents Relief supports the education of children in developing countries such as India, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Sth Africa, Malawi, Timor Leste, Sri Lanka, Peru, PNG and Nepal. Many of our supporters sponsor a school each year which enables the Director on the ground to direct funds where they are most needed. Many others support major or minor projects at our schools - such as, improving wate

Again this year, thanks to the work of our volunteers, our costs have remained low. We are proud to report that over 98% of your donations are distributed to pay for education of children. Meet Vision from Malawi. Vision lost her parents whilst she was still at school - fortunately she was taken in and cared for by her grandmother. She did very well at school, but, like so many students in Malawi, she had little hope of raising the tuition fees for further study. Thanks to IR donors, she is now in the final months of her nursing studies! Well done Vision!!

Parents at the new Canossian Primary School in Balaka, Malawi begged the Sisters to provide a meal each day for their daughters. Often these girls were coming to school hungry and finding it difficult to concentrate. Thanks to regular donors to our African Schools Fund, these girls now have a new kitchen preparing a nutritious and filling meal each day :)

Tuition fees for 45 HIV+ students in Kampala, Uganda, supported by their parish, have been very difficult to find since the pandemic put a stop to their local donations.
Some of these students must board because their family life is unstable due to addiction and/or domestic violence issues. Thanks to our donors, we have been able to keep them in their schools for the past few years and contribute to their food parcels.

St John de Brito Lower Secondary School in Liquica, Timor Leste waited years for funding to replace fallen ceiling panels, to tile over badly damaged cement floors and to repaint three classrooms built in the late 1980's. Thanks to our generous donors this finally happened earlier this year.
The students are so happy to work in their much improved learning spaces!

Additional dormitories for secondary girls in Liquica, Timor Leste!

20 more girls will soon make these rooms 'home' during school terms. Many girls in TL do not complete their education due to the distance they have to travel to school or the poor study conditions at home. The Redemption Sisters are very grateful to Innocents Relief donors for helping them to support more girls in this way.

The secondary school in Liquica, Timor Leste was originally built in 1996. There has been no funding from the government to repair the older buildings. The ceiling panels have deteriorated and the cement floor has potholes big enough to trip into!

These beautiful Gr 3 students in Bazartete and their teachers are doing their best with the little they have.

Their school, in the mountains above Liquica receives no support from the government or the diocese. Parents pay a small fee of $1 a month for their children to attend.

Despite this, the teachers are motivated and ensure the children receive a quality education and a nutritious meal everyday from the school garden.

They would love to build a hall, including a library, in which the whole school could gather, particularly in the monsoon season.

The Innocents Relief team have been hard at work in Timor Leste this week! Sr Leonarda’s orphaned girls’ rickety beds needed some attention and mosquito nets were a must with the monsoon season approaching. Our president was even witnessed doing a spot of dusting!

We’re hoping to cover the yearly cost of uniforms, school fees, medication and food for the girls.
