πŸ“£πŸ“£So glad to hear a Dementia Sharing Circle will be happening on the southside of Brisbane at the Coopers Plains Library proudly sponsored by Brisbane City Council. Starting on the 14th July and continuing on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The lovely Dementia Doula Kate from Ground Zero Counselling will be facilitating this group, so if you have any questions reach out to her. πŸ₯°

Carers of people living with dementia need support too!

One of the least understood parts of dementia is grief. Not only after death β€” but throughout the journey itself.

Many carers experience what is known as anticipatory grief - we grieve the often gradual yet constant changes that impact the people we love. This grief is often invisible to others.

Support groups can provide space for carers to talk honestly about these experiences with people who truly understand.

From July 14 next month, Ground Zero Counselling and Dementia Services will be offering a free monthly Dementia Carers Support Group at Coopers Plains Library proudly sponsored by BCC.

It is a space dedicated to emotional support, connection and community. A space to take some time for YOU - the family members and partners who provide care to those living with dementia.

I hope you can join us. Please share with anyone you know who is caring for someone living with dementia on the Southside of Brisbane.

If you would like more information, please reach out to me at [email protected]

Warmly
Kate

I have had the pleasure of meeting Teun and Jonathan at the International Dementia Conference in Sydney last week.
Teun's mission to improve the quality of life of people living with dementia.

Teun has been living in the closed ward of a nursing home for 3.5years when he decides to take this mission to the next level. With filmmaker Jonathan de Jong they go on an adventurous three-year journey across 4 continents and through 11 countries, to look for answers for the future.

Very excited to see the β€˜Southside Dementia Sharing Circle’ at Coopers Plains Library starting up - 14th July and continuing the second Tuesday of the month. Sponsored by the Brisbane City Council’s Aged Care Grant.
Details below or contact Kate from Ground Zero Counselling for more information.

Introducing the Brisbane South Dementia Carer Support Group

Caring for someone living with dementia can be incredibly isolating. Many carers quietly carry stress, grief, exhaustion, uncertainty, and responsibility while trying to support the person they love. Over time, it can feel like no one truly understands the emotional complexity of the journey. That is why connection matters.

From July 14, 2026, I will be facilitating a FREE monthly Dementia Carers Support Group at Coopers Plains Library in Brisbane. The β€˜Southside Dementia Sharing Circle’ is an initiative of the Brisbane Southside Dementia Network and proudly sponsored by the Brisbane City Council’s Age-Friendly Community Development Grant.

This will be a warm, supportive space for:
🌿 Shared stories, experiences and understanding of dementia
🌿 Emotional support
🌿 Education and reflection
🌿 Connection with others on a similar journey who truly β€œget it”
🌿 Building friendships, offering and receiving peer support

This is a dedicated space for families impacted by dementia, NOT a space for aged care service providers.

If you would like more information or would like to express interest, please contact me at [email protected] or consider following my Page for updates. I would love to see you there.

Warmly
Kate
