Indooroopilly State High School Students are showing what it means to be EcoMarines!🌱

Their annual Sustainability Day was a massive success! GreIndro / EcoMarines Ambassadors and support crew organised a wealth of sustainable activities and stalls for the entire school to enjoy, including their hit "Mini-Thrift" swap shop! 👕↔️👚

All funds raised went directly to "Take 3 For the Sea" to combat plastic pollution in our oceans, a perfect initiative for our dedicated EcoMarines Ambassadors to pursue.

Great job to all the Indooroopilly State High School GreIndro / EcoMarines Ambassadors, support crew and staff for a successful Sustainability Day this year!

Huge congratulations to our EcoMarines legends at Hilliard State School, Alexandra Hills!

Yesterday, their EcoMarines Ambassadors were presented with their "Go Green Competition" Finalist Certificate, a Certificate of Donation celebrating their record-breaking fundraising efforts, and reusable water bottles to keep the sustainability momentum going! 💚

🔬 National Science Week is here, EcoMarines community! 🔍

Through the EcoMarines program, we're proud to empower both students and teachers alike with our hands-on Citizen Science workshops, allowing our amazing EcoMarines Ambassadors to collect and share vital scientific data right at school!

These workshops provide EcoMarines Ambassadors the opportunity to:

💧 Track and monitor local biodiversity.

📊 Collect, analyse, and report real scientific data.

💡 Turn research findings into actionable environmental solutions for their school.

National Science week is the perfect opportunity to book in a Citizen Science workshop with EcoMarines and help contribute to the valuable scientific data that keeps our native environments thriving!

📅 How to Get Involved in 3 Simple Steps

1. Book Your Workshop: Secure an EcoMarines Citizen Science workshop by enquiring with us.

2. Conduct the Fieldwork: EcoMarines Ambassadors lead hands-on data collection in their school-grounds, using software such as “Seek” by iNaturalist to identify native species.

3. Make an Impact: Student Ambassadors use this collected data to track, plan and make needed changes at school!

EcoMarines has workshop dates available Weeks 8, 9, and 10, for Ipswich, South Redlands, and Logan schools respectively, as well as availabilities during these weeks for Townsville and Burdekin!

The Ekka is officially here! The historic event is bringing all the best communities together in Brisbane! But did you know that if we aren't careful, these big events can produce a massive amount of waste?

EcoMarines knows that everyone can still have a blast while putting in the effort to protect our local native ecosystems. Before you head through the gates at the Brisbane Showgrounds, check out our top "Sustainability Tips & Tricks" for a super sustainable Ekka experience!

BYO Bottle: Skip single-use plastic bottles. Pack your own reusable drink bottle and fill up for free at the “hydration stations” scattered around the grounds! 💧

Tote-ally Sustainable: Bring a sturdy canvas bag, or even a backpack from home to carry your showbags, prizes, and treats. No need for extra plastic bags! 👜

Recycle Right: Look closely at the bins! Every can and bottle you sort correctly into the provided recycling bins is one less piece on the ground! ♻️

Take the Train: Reducing air pollution and traffic congestion? Sounds like a win to us! Jump on public transport, the train can drop you right in the middle of the action at Exhibition Station. 🚊

💚🔖Go Green Competition Finalist: St Mary’s Primary School (Ipswich) 🔖💚

We are extremely excited to reveal St. Mary's Primary School Ipswich as one of our "Go Green" Competition Finalists in 2026!

To celebrate their efforts during the competition, they are taking home a $50 gift card that can be used to help fund their current and future sustainability projects!

Their video submission was incredible, and made for some tough competition when picking our winners! Have a look at some amazing highlights of how these EcoMarines Ambassadors are making a difference at school:

"Big Monsters" Competition: An amazingly creative initiative designed to help encourage their peers to recycle paper instead of simply throwing it away. By turning this recycling into art projects, it helps to create the act of recycling into fun for everyone!

School Water Audit: The EcoMarines Ambassadors studied water wastage around the school, this data directly led to more efficient bubblers being installed. This effort made it clear that student voices can make a real difference.

School-Grown Tuckshop Veg: Classes have been provided with small-scale composters. These are used to help their impressive school gardens grow vegetables by turning compost into fertiliser. These veggies are then used in the school tuckshop and cooking classes!

St Mary's Primary School's EcoMarines Ambassadors also detail how important being a part of the EcoMarines program is to them, and how it reveals that their everyday choices matter when it comes to helping our native environments.

Well done to all of the involved EcoMarines Ambassadors, Support Crew, and Teachers who were involved!
