🚨 New Demo Competition for 2026 Nationals: Rescue Simulation!

Take your rescue robotics skills into a virtual world at the 2026 RoboCup Junior Australian National Championships.

For the first time, RoboCup Junior Australia will host a demonstration competition for RoboCupJunior Rescue Simulation.

In Rescue Simulation, teams program an autonomous virtual robot to explore a hazardous environment, identify victims and hazards, navigate difficult terrain, and produce a map to support a simulated rescue response.

There is no physical robot required. Teams develop and test their software using the Webots-Erebus simulation platform.

This challenge is ideal for students who enjoy:

💻 Programming and autonomous robotics
🗺️ Mapping and navigation
👁️ Computer vision
🤖 Artificial intelligence and advanced algorithms
🚑 Rescue Line and Rescue Maze challenges

The demo competition will give Australian students and mentors the opportunity to experience an international RoboCupJunior competition and help shape how Rescue Simulation could be introduced in Australia in future years.

🤖 Does your robot’s sensor provide data—or does it do the thinking?

RoboCup Junior Australia has published an important clarification about which sensors will be permitted in competition from the 2027 season.

The main rule is simple:

✅ If the student does the thinking using the sensor’s data, it is allowed.
❌ If the sensor does the thinking and provides a finished solution, it is not allowed.

Sensors that provide raw measurements are allowed and encouraged. Students must then write their own code and algorithms to interpret that data and control their robot.

This is not because other sensors are “bad.” Many are fantastic pieces of technology created by an amazing maker and robotics community.

The goal is to keep RoboCupJunior:

• fair
• student-focused
• centred on coding and problem-solving
• focused on student-created solutions
