The Smash Down Barriers program aims to use table tennis as a tool to improve the quality of life of people with disability.

The Smash Down Barriers program, is an Australian Government sport-for-development program, funded by DFAT under the Pacific Sports Partnership and the Asian Sports Partnership. The program aims to promote social inclusion through regular participation in table tennis activities and improve attitudes both by and towards people with a disability.

Fiji Association of Sport & National Olympic Committee Smash Down Barriers Programme and the Athlete Community Engagement (ACE) Team were grateful and honoured to be part of this year’s International Deaf Week (IDW) Celebration.

We were also grateful for the opportunity to work closely with the Fiji Gospel School for the Deaf and the Deaf Harland Hostel. It was wonderful to see the happiness and appreciation from the students and staff as they participated in the activities and received support through our programmes.

The event also helped promote inclusion, participation, confidence, and belonging through sport, while strengthening our partnership with the Deaf community.
The students and staff expressed their appreciation for the support and activities provided.

Together, we continue to Smash Down Barriers and create opportunities for everyone through sport.

Our Exciting Monthly Meet!

Join us for our exciting monthly meet, where our Beginner, Development, and National teams come together to showcase their progress, test the skills they've been developing, and challenge themselves in a fun and supportive environment. It's also a great opportunity to meet new players, make new friends, and grow together as one team.

Happy Safe Sport from SDB, Fiji 🤗🏓

Safeguarding should protect EVERYONE involved in sport.

Especially children, women and people with disabilities.

Safe sport helps everyone enjoy playing, learning and being part of the community.

Stand up. Speak out. Play your part. If you see something unsafe, please report it to your coach or safeguarding officer.

Laniana Serukalou, our Smash Down Barriers (SDB) Development Officer based in the Western Division, was honored to be a guest speaker at Ba Special School.

She shared the vision of the Smash Down Barriers (SDB) Program and reflected on her inspiring table tennis journey. She spoke about how the SDB program and table tennis have transformed her life, empowering her to overcome challenges and achieve her goals.

Laniana encouraged the students to never see their disability as a barrier or limitation. Instead, she urged them to believe in themselves, remain confident, and embrace the mindset that anything is possible with determination, perseverance, and self-belief.

Her inspiring message left students motivated to dream big, build confidence, and pursue their aspirations without fear.

A great day of fun, learning, and competition. New participants developed their skills, our Development Team put their progress to the test, and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to play against our national team.

The day was full of fun and excitement, bringing together new faces from different schools, communities, and organisations.

We cater to everyone. For those attending for the first time, we organised fun activities focused on learning and developing table tennis skills. For our Development Team members, we held a competitive session to test their progress and showcase their improvement.

Participants also had the opportunity to play against members of our national team, making the experience even more memorable. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and is already looking forward to the next one.

Supporting every child through sport. 🏓

Together with our partners, we brought fun, movement and smiles to students at Suva Special School through inclusive activities including table tennis, hockey, baseball and relay games.
