💧 Do you live in the Upper Tingalpa Catchment?

This beautiful catchment includes Burbank, Sheldon, Priestdale, and parts of Mount Cotton, Daisy Hill, Springwood, Rochedale South, Rochedale, Mackenzie, Belmont, Chandler and Capalaba.

Creeks and tributaries throughout the catchment flow into Leslie Harrison Dam (Tingalpa Reservoir), an important source of South East Queensland’s drinking water.

The catchment is also home to an incredible array of wildlife, including koalas, squirrel gliders, greater gliders and black cockatoos. 🐨🦉🌿

Upper Tingalpa Creekcare is part of Seqwater’s Source Protection initiative, recognising that protecting water at the source is the first step in delivering clean, safe and sustainable drinking water.

Seqwater sources the region’s drinking water from rivers, creeks and dams. This is known as raw water. Protecting the quality of this raw water helps ensure it can be efficiently and cost-effectively treated before it reaches our taps.
The good news is that actions that benefit your property and local wildlife can also help protect water quality. Healthy vegetation, stable creek banks, reduced erosion and good land management all contribute to healthier waterways and a healthier catchment.

🌱 Healthy catchments. Clean, safe and sustainable water.

🌿 Backyards for Biodiversity Community Workshop 🌿

Do you live in the Upper Tingalpa Creek Catchment? Join us for an inspiring evening with Ken Cross, co-founder of Backyards for Biodiversity SEQ, and discover how your garden can help support local wildlife while contributing to a healthier catchment.

Book here: Book here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1990593976168

📅 Thursday 25 June 2026, 7:00pm – 8:30pm
📍 Rochedale Community Hall
48 Farmers Street, Rochedale QLD 4123

🌱 Free native plants available!

Around the world, wildlife is declining as natural habitats are cleared and fragmented. Yet one of the greatest opportunities for conservation lies surprisingly close to home – in our own gardens.

Ken will explore how suburban backyards can become valuable refuges for native plants, birds, insects and other wildlife. Learn practical ways to:
✅ Attract native wildlife to your garden
✅ Create habitat with native plants
✅ Provide food, water and shelter
✅ Reduce chemical use
✅ Transform even a small backyard into a biodiversity haven

Ken is a lifelong naturalist, passionate birder, retired school teacher, birding tour guide and Convenor of BirdLife Sunshine Coast. He enjoys helping people discover how everyday spaces can play an important role in supporting biodiversity.

💧 This workshop is specifically for residents of the Upper Tingalpa Creek Catchment, recognising that healthy land supports both wildlife and clean drinking water. The catchment feeds into Tingalpa Reservoir and is home to iconic species including koalas, greater gliders and squirrel gliders.

Upper Tingalpa Creekcare, part of Seqwater’s Source Protection initiative, works with landholders and the community to protect water quality through local action and strong partnerships.

💧 Winter is a great time to check that your onsite sewage treatment system (septic system) is functioning properly.

In a drinking water catchment, a poorly functioning septic system can impact human health, local waterways and the surrounding environment. Cooler, drier conditions also make it easier to spot warning signs before bigger problems develop.

Look out for:
• Lush, fast-growing grass or weeds over drainage areas
• Damp or soggy ground during dry weather
• Bad smells or sewage odours
• Slow-draining sinks, showers or toilets
• Gurgling pipes or overflowing drains
• Wastewater surfacing above ground
• Greywater entering nearby drains or waterways

Regular inspections and maintenance, conserving water and being mindful of what goes down your drains can help protect our waterways, wildlife and downstream drinking water supplies.

🌿 Passerine Park Bushcare – Sunday 26 April 🌿

The next Passerine Park Bushcare morning is coming up on Sunday 26 April, and we’d love to see you there!

While the new netted area isn’t quite finished yet (hopefully ready for May 🤞), there’s still plenty to do. The ground is quite dry at the moment—even the Madeira vine is looking a bit stressed—so this month we’ll focus on:
💧 Giving plants a good drink
🌱 Spreading mulch
🌳 Planting any remaining trees
🌿 Removing young Madeira vines (if time allows)

A big thank you to Helen for creating a beautiful new sign for the butterfly garden planted before Christmas 🦋
📍 Where: Passerine Park, Priest Gully Creek (Underwood Road crossing)
🕗 Time: 8:00–10:00am
🚗 Parking available on Underwood Road, or park on Passerine Drive and walk over the footbridge
What to bring:
☀️ Hat & sunscreen
💧 Water bottle
🧤 Gardening gloves (limited spares available)

We’ll finish with a relaxed morning tea and chat ☕

I’ll send a reminder closer to the day—hope to see you there!

🌿 From planting to thriving! 🌿

In late April 2024, 16 dedicated volunteers joined us to help regenerate a riparian area on the edge of Lake Dennis.

Two years on, the transformation is incredible, and the plants have matured beautifully and the site is really coming to life 💚

By restoring riparian vegetation, we’re not only enhancing the landscape, but also helping to protect water quality. Native plants act as a natural filter, reducing runoff and supporting a healthier catchment 🌱💧

Lake Dennis sits within the Upper Tingalpa Catchment, and this planting was proudly supported by Upper Tingalpa Creekcare, part of Seqwater’s Rivercare initiative.

Rivercare supports landholders to adopt best-practice land management, helping to protect our waterways and the health of our region.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. This is what community-driven restoration looks like 🙌
