We’re continuing to highlight Zonta International’s causes—this time focusing on Climate Justice, an urgent call to action that recognizes how climate change is not gender-neutral.
🌍 Millions of people have already lost their homes and livelihoods due to extreme weather events, and most of them are women. Historical and structural gender inequalities mean that women and girls are disproportionately affected, facing higher risks of injury, loss of income and even gender-based violence during climate-related disasters.
🌱 Zonta International is taking action to achieve climate justice by partnering with UNFPA in Madagascar, Mozambique and South Sudan through the Climate Empower: Community Empowerment and Innovation for Gender-Transformative Climate Action program. This initiative works to prevent climate-induced gender-based violence and strengthen women and girls as agents of change for climate resilience.
💪 Through our global advocacy campaign Zonta Says NOW to Gender-Equal Climate Action, Zonta members are calling for women’s full and equal participation in decision-making and environmental sustainability efforts to ensure that climate action is also gender-equal action.
