The Sunshine Coast hinterland could soon be home to an internationally recognised Dark Sky Reserve, protecting our precious starry skies for the future.

RENEW ECONOMY: 'The latest Gas Statement of Opportunities shows โ€œshortfallsโ€ pushed out again, now beyond 2030, as electrification and a pipeline of roughly 30 GW of batteries eat into demand.

In other words, the โ€œgas gapโ€ keeps moving away from us because the system is moving past gas.

This is exactly the story (Peter Newman and Ray Wills) have been documenting: Australiaโ€™s grids are undergoing a storage-led transition where batteries rapidly move from the margins to the centre of system security.'

๐Ÿšจ Concerned about this major new development in our Pumicestone Passage catchment? You should be.

The risks associated with the Coochin Creek developments were already significant โ€” including the impacts of the associated large-scale music festival and exhibition development. Now, the developer is pushing for a series of changes that would remove important, reasonable conditions designed to protect the area and manage this intensive and ill-sited development.

So what does this development *really* involve? And why are these conditions so critical โ€” especially in such a sensitive location?

Join our upcoming webinar today from 4pm to get the full picture:
๐Ÿ” Understand the true scope of the project
โš ๏ธ Learn about the potential impacts on the community and environment

Today is Wild Koala Day and here at QKC we are proud to officially launch the Joey Club โ€” a kidsโ€™ conservation community created to inspire the next generation of wildlife protectors.

The Joey Club is where young wildlife heroes donโ€™t just learn about koalasโ€ฆ they take action to protect them. ๐Ÿ’š

With habitat loss, climate pressures, and growing threats in the wild, itโ€™s never been more important to empower kids with the knowledge, confidence, and tools to make a difference.

๐Ÿพ Two membership tiers for different ages:
๐Ÿ‘ถ Pouch Joeys (ages 3โ€“6) โ€” fun, creative, confidence-building missions
๐Ÿง’ Back Rider Joeys (ages 7โ€“12) โ€” deeper learning + real-world action challenges

Because conservation isnโ€™t just something adults doโ€ฆ kids can be part of it right now. ๐ŸŒโœจ

๐Ÿ’š Join us at the beginning of something powerful โ€” where kids lead the way in protecting koalas and the wild places they call home.

That is exactly what Victoria Park Barrambin is.

Not spare land. Not a blank canvas. Not a convenient place for a stadium. It is part of Brisbaneโ€™s green heart - and once that is lost, we do not get it back. ๐Ÿ’š

Join us every Friday afternoon in May for a relaxed BYO community get-together in Victoria Park Barrambin.

GIICA is planning to fence off large parts of the park from 1 June, effectively cutting the community off from the main areas of the park. But this is not a done deal.

The fight to protect Victoria Park Barrambin is far from over. Legal action is ongoing and we are absolutely not giving up.

While that fight continues, we want to come together in the park throughout May to celebrate this extraordinary place, connect with each other and remind ourselves exactly what we are fighting for.

When: Fridays, 4-6pm
Dates: 1 May, 8 May, 15 May, 22 May, 29 May
Where: BBQs next to the function centre, Victoria Park Barrambin
Bring: BYO drinks, nibbles, picnic rug, family and friends

These gatherings are a show of love, community and determination.

The park is still here.
The fight is still on.
It is not a done deal.
