Historic day for Australian seafarers! The MUA is proud to announce that after many years of hard work the ANL Kokoda, will be the first ship reflagged under the red ensign as part of the Australian Strategic Fleet. Australian crew, Australian wages, Australian law. For too long, neoliberal deregulation handed our coastline to multinational shipping cartels paying poverty wages to vulnerable workers. A turning point seeing the potential for real careers for a new generation of seafarers, and supply chain sovereignty for our island nation. The rebuild of Australian shipping starts today. ⚓

Big shout out to MUA National Secretary, Jake Field, for spending 3 days in Gladstone over the weekend visiting 2 of our 4 Queensland Blue Water ships. There’s a blue on board that is deeply concerning to our crews with the proposal to introduce invasive AI-enabled cameras to which we have rejected. The fight against this has been ongoing for 12 months. The RTM crews are united on this & it was a boost for them to have Jake’s input in negotiations with the company, as well as the opportunity to discuss Australian shipping & general union issues with all members present in shipboard meetings. It was great, as always, to see the crews & a real pleasure to visit the ships. Looking forward to seeing the gangs on the other two vessels soon. ✊🏻
