This Families Week, we’re sharing what 30 years of supporting families has taught us.

💙We know that trusted relationships matter.
💙We know that supporting parents and children together creates stronger futures.
💙And we know that safe, secure housing is the foundation for future wellbeing and stability.

These lessons continue to guide how we work alongside families experiencing homelessness, poverty and domestic and family violence.

Today on International Nurses Day, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our nurses - the everyday heroes who support people across our community with kindness, compassion, and unwavering care. Every day, they work alongside people at risk to improve health outcomes by providing:

💙 outreach visits to social housing, motels, and boarding houses
💙 assertive street outreach through our mobile health van, operating day and night
💙 tailored support for women and girls
💙 specialist care for women experiencing domestic and family violence
💙 pop-up clinics offering vaccinations, screening, and specialist services
💙 support for people living with severe mental illness
💙 support for older people, including Forgotten Australians, to navigate the aged care system.

🙏🏾 Thank you to all nurses working across our health system and community services for your incredible care, dedication, and contribution. You make a real difference in the lives of many every day.

On Wednesday 6 May, we came together in reflection, remembrance, and solidarity for National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day, honouring the lives lost due to domestic and family violence (DFV) and standing alongside victim-survivors, families, and all those impacted by DFV.

On behalf of the organising committee, we would like to extend our appreciation to everyone who attended the Candle Lighting Vigil 2026 in Brisbane. Your presence reflected the care, empathy, and shared support within our community, while helping continue the important conversation about ending domestic and family violence.

Our sincere appreciation to hear from family members- 'secondary victims' of DFV: Vanessa Fowler, OAM, Co-Chair of the DFV Prevention Council, Shayne Probert, Danielle Carroll, and Luis Prado & Zoe, and who bravely shared their stories and experiences they faced as a result of losing a loved one to DFV.

A special acknowledgement to Shaniah for your welcome to country, Kay McGrath for guiding the evening with grace as MC, the Brisbane Combined Unions Choir for your moving songs, and to Aria Clemmet-Kennedy, Laurel Scrammell, Tjiala Brown-Roberts from the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts for their cultural performance.

We were honoured to hear from the Honourable Amanda Camm MP Minister for Families, Seniors, and Disability Services and Minister for Child Safety and Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence; and Queensland Deputy Police Commissioner Regional Operations, John Tims.

To our colleagues in the important vigil organising committee, thank you for organising this important evening and for the meaningful work you do every day to support those impacted by DFV across Queensland.

May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month 💜

This year’s message is simple but powerful: Together, Queenslanders can prevent domestic and family violence.

DFV isn’t always visible. It can include emotional abuse, coercive control, financial control, isolation, and more. Understanding the signs helps us support each other better.

There are small but important ways we can all help:

💜 Listen and believe people
💜 Offer support without judgement
💜 Learn about coercive control
💜 Challenge common myths
💜 Know local support services.

At Micah Projects, we walk alongside women, children, and families, providing support, safety, and pathways to recovery.

Let’s stand together this May, and every day, to build safer, more respectful communities.

We asked our leaders what they’ve learned from working alongside people in our community. Their reflections show the dignity‑centred practice that continues to guide Micah Projects.

🩵From offering options instead of directions, to creating the conditions for people to feel seen, respected and supported — dignity is at the core of how we work.

⭐ People of Micah Projects ⭐

Meet Bridget Kinch - Acting CEO

We want to share with our community that Bridget Kinch has stepped into the role of Acting CEO at Micah Projects.

Bridget has been part of Micah Projects for more than two decades. She has worked alongside our teams through major moments in Brisbane’s history — from early homelessness responses to floods, COVID and the growing need for safe, inclusive support in the current housing crisis. She is known by many in our community as someone who shows up, listens and helps create steady ground in uncertain times.

Bridget continues to work closely with our experienced senior leadership team to ensure stability across all programs and services, including homelessness, domestic and family violence, inclusive health partnerships, supportive housing, equity and systems change, social enterprise, community connection, and support for women, children and families.

Thank you for your ongoing trust and support as we work together toward a more just and inclusive community, while supporting people facing homelessness, violence, and hardship.
