Want to be part of ESA2026 in Brisbane this November/December?

We have four new travel grants opening on Monday 20 July.

Please check the eligibility criteria for each category – and make sure you submit your application before they close!

Early Career Ecologist Conference Travel Grant
20 July – 31 August
The Ecological Society of Australia is pleased to announce travel grants to support and encourage Early Career Ecologists (ECEs) to participate in-person in the ESA annual conference.

Childcare Travel Grants
Opens 20 July
The ESA is offering a number of Conference Childcare Travel Grants to assist delegates with young children to bring a support carer with them to help with care over the conference period.

Peter Fairweather Student Conference Support Award
20 July – 31 August
This award is open to students who will present either an oral or poster presentation at the Ecological Society of Australia conference in the current year and can be used to support their travel, registration or accommodation at the conference.

Student Travel Grant
Opens 20 July
The ESA encourages student attendance at its annual conference by providing a number of student travel grants each year. Applications will close when the funding allocation has been reached.

And remember that our Indigenous Travel Grant category is also still open. We have a limited number of travel grants of up to $1500, plus registration per participant, available to assist with travel and accommodation for Indigenous attendees presenting at the conference. These grants opened on 1 July and will close on 30 September.

The Ecological Impact Awards celebrate projects and initiatives creating real-world ecological impact.

Award recipients receive:
• Funded attendance for two project representatives at the ESA Annual Conference
• A 20-minute plenary presentation opportunity

50 years of NAIDOC, and what it means for ecology.

NAIDOC Week is here — 5 to 12 July — and 2026 is a big one. It marks 50 years of NAIDOC, under the theme 50 Years of Deadly: five decades of culture, resistance, pride and achievement.

NAIDOC Week is a chance for all of us to learn about and celebrate the cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples — the oldest continuing living cultures on Earth.

It's also close to home for ecologists. Country has been read, managed and cared for here for tens of thousands of years, and that knowledge still shapes how we understand and look after this continent today. As ESA works through its Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, this is a week to celebrate that — and to keep walking the journey.
