BE AWARE:
A national test of AusAlert, Australia’s new emergency warning system, will be sent to compatible mobile phones, smart watches and tablets on Monday 27 July 2026. If you receive the alert, you do not need to do anything. It is only a test.
What is happening
AusAlert is due to launch in October 2026. Before it launches, the Australian Government will run a national test to check how the system works across Australia and help people recognise an AusAlert message.
What to expect
• Most compatible mobile phones, and some smart watches and tablets, will receive the test alert.
• The alert will vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds.
• A message will appear on the screen and clearly say it is a test.
• The exact appearance may vary depending on your computer, phone, tablet or operating system

At the time of the test, a single Critical AusAlert test will be sent to every mobile device in Australia. Everyone with a compatible phone or other device in Australia can expect to receive the alert.

Did you know - not all planned burns look the same 🤔

Many of Queensland’s plants and ecosystems rely on a healthy dose of fire in the right conditions to regenerate and thrive, but beneficial burns can look very different from one landscape to another.

QPWS is currently making the most of favourable weather to undertake planned burns in coastal areas. These planned burns can seem intense and put up more smoke when compared to woodland prescribed burns.

While this might look a bit concerning, it’s all part of the plan. Queensland’s coastal heath vegetation is fire-adapted and needs fire to trigger germination and flourish.

If conditions are too mild, coastal heath won’t carry fire at all, meaning it misses out on the benefits from the planned burn.

Rangers work with these anticipated fire behaviours and consider a wide range of factors including wind direction and speed, temperature, fuel moisture, humidity, topography, lighting patterns and timing to achieve the best outcomes for the environment while reducing bushfire risk for nearby communities.

Planned burns will continue in protected areas this winter, weather depending. You can stay updated with local QPWS fire activities by visiting Park Alerts: https://parks.desi.qld.gov.au/park-alerts

🔥Planned burn notification

City of Moreton Bay has received advice from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) advising that they will be conducting a planned burn in the Bribie Island National Park (Banksia Beach) between Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July 2026. The planned burn activities include active fire, site containment and monitoring over consecutive days, with smoke visible and affecting the area.

The burn is being undertaken to reduce the volume of bushland fuel, thereby reducing potential bushfire hazards.

Smoke is likely to be generated during the burn. This may cause some inconvenience; however, all attempts will be made to limit any adverse impacts on nearby residents.

What you should do

If you have asthma or other breathing difficulties, reduce outdoor activities when smoke levels are high. If shortness of breath or coughing develops, take advised medical precautions or seek medical advice.
Keep doors and windows closed and set air-conditioners to recirculate to prevent smoke entering homes.
Remove washing from clothes lines.
Ensure pets have a protected area.
If driving through smoke, vehicles must slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on.
Sightseers must keep away from the burns for their own safety.
Impacts
No properties are at risk.
Smoke can make it hard for some people to breathe.
Smoke can make it hard to see when you are driving.
Some roads may be closed.
