Our next Mummy’s Wish support group is coming up this week, on Thursday 4 June.

This group runs via phone or videoconference, bringing together mums from all over Australia who have been diagnosed with cancer.

It’s a place to connect, share, ask questions, and gain support from other mums who have a similar experience.

You’re also invited to join Rare Cancers Australia’s cancer-specific, rare or carer support groups too.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating some of the incredible people who help behind the scenes at Mummy’s Wish.

Our volunteers include people like Kerry, who works hard to prepare care packs for families after a mum’s cancer diagnosis, and our bear-stuffing groups.

Yesterday, we welcomed the second of two groups from Roche to stuff our beautiful comfort bears.

Our volunteer groups join us to stuff hundreds of bears, learn more about Mummy’s Wish, and bring some comfort to families when a mum has been diagnosed with cancer.

A big thank you to all our volunteers who have such a huge impact for families facing cancer.

“Our normal became very, very different.”

When Nick’s wife Nicole was diagnosed with a rare salivary gland cancer, he says everything changed for their family.

Their little boy, Xander, was just one year old, and managing a young family alongside cancer treatment brought huge challenges.

Through it all, Mummy’s Wish was there, giving Xander a cuddly teddy with a recordable heart so he could always have his mum close.

Ahead of Mother’s Day, we’re asking for your support to help bring comfort, understanding and time to more children when their mum is diagnosed with cancer.

Meet Nick and his son, Xander.

Xander’s mum, Nicole, passed away from a rare cancer when Xander was just a toddler.

But through it all, Mummy’s Wish was there to support her and her family.

Now eight years old, Xander’s special bear from Mummy’s Wish still gives him a connection to his mum, and he often reads books with Nick to understand their family’s situation.

“It’s one thing to face a diagnosis such as cancer, but it’s another thing to go through it when you’ve got little kids,” Nick said.

“How do you have those conversations? Getting that support and guidance and wisdom from a group like Mummy’s Wish was invaluable.”

In the lead-up to Mother’s Day, we’re asking for your help to support more families like Nick and Xander, giving children the comfort, understanding and time they need when a mum is diagnosed with cancer.

Donate today, and you’ll also be automatically entered in the draw to win a $250 Red Balloon voucher!

They say it takes a village to raise a child.

It takes a village to support a mum through cancer, too – and you can find your village in our Mummy’s Wish support group.

This group is a space where you can connect with other mums who have also been diagnosed with cancer.

Whether you’ve recently been diagnosed, or cancer has been part of your life for a while, you’ll find others who can relate to your experiences, share your frustrations and hopes, and provide genuine advice and care.

Our next session is at 11am (AEST) on Thursday 7 May.

Contact [email protected] to ask to join.
