Children can be very perceptive – no matter how young they are.

If you’ve recently been diagnosed with cancer, chances are children have noticed things like changes in routine, more people coming over, or simply that you have less energy.

There’s no perfect way to tell children you have cancer, and while our instinct may be to protect children from bad news, telling the truth is often the best approach.

Take some time to plan how you want to break the news, using simple and age-appropriate language.

If you need some tips, reach out to our team or download a copy of the Mummy’s Wish Support Guide at: https://bit.ly/3FGhsrh

Supportive care can have a profound impact on the way people experience cancer.

Supportive care includes evidence-based, multidisciplinary practices and therapies that can help people tolerate treatment and reduce complications.

SAHMRI has recently published a paper addressing some of the common myths around supportive care.

Alongside clinical care, supportive care can help manage side effects, maintain quality of life, and reduce hospital admissions and emergency presentations.

Supportive care can offer benefits at any point of a person’s cancer experience, from diagnosis and throughout treatment and survivorship.

We’re into the very last days of Dry July – let's make them count.

✨ Congratulations and thank you to all our participants who have given up alcohol all month to support families through a mum’s cancer diagnosis.

Funds raised for Mummy’s Wish during Dry July go towards our care packs for kids, giving them cuddly teddies and special books to bring extra comfort when their mum is diagnosed with cancer.

We’d love to see support for Dry July continue right into the final days of the challenge, helping our challengers to have as big an impact as possible.

📚️ A donation of $35 provides a book for a child to read to help them understand their mum’s cancer

🧸 A donation of $75 gives a child a teddy bear with a recordable heart so they can always keep mum close.

The right words can shift your mindset and help you remain positive during cancer or other difficult experiences.

Affirmations are one way to do this. They’re short, positive statements you can repeat to yourself, drawing out your inner strength.

They can help before treatment sessions, during hospital stays, or to help you through challenging moments like scans or procedures.

Some people use affirmations as part of their daily routine, while for others, they’re a useful tool to draw on when they’re feeling particularly worried or stressed.

Best of all, affirmations are free, safe, and easy to use.

Our Jem Program includes more information and some examples of affirmations you may like to try. Read more at: https://bit.ly/4wmP5DJ

You can also find affirmations, mindfulness exercises and practical tools in the My Journey Wellness Journal, designed for people with cancer or other illnesses. Order your copy online at: https://bit.ly/4wo8Zyi

There’s just one week to go until the end of Dry July!

Now we’re on the home stretch, every dollar counts.

All funds raised for Mummy’s Wish this Dry July go towards providing care packs for kids – including carefully selected books and cuddly teddies.

These thoughtful and much-loved gifts can bring comfort, care and understanding to children when they need it most.

Thank you to our Dry July participants – please keep sharing your fundraising page and help make a difference right up to the end of the challenge.

And if you’d like to help, give now to a Mummy’s Wish participant, team or direct to our beneficiary page at: https://bit.ly/44kVP9p

At every stage of motherhood, it can be helpful and reassuring to have a network of other mums who understand what you’re going through.

Whether it’s the struggles of infant sleep, the challenges of teething, or keeping up with everything happening at school, having other mums you can call upon is vital.

The same is true when you’re a mum with cancer.

It’s an experience you can often only understand if you’ve been there, and our Mummy’s Wish support group helps you find those connections.

Designed for mums who have young children and have been diagnosed with any type of cancer, this is a group where others can relate to your hopes, fears and challenges, being there with tips and reassurance to make the hard days a little easier.

Come along to our next group on Thursday 6 August for a chat.

Email [email protected] or visit: https://bit.ly/3HlFUPh to join.

🎉 Congratulations to all our Dry July participants – you’ve made it halfway through the challenge!

Going alcohol-free for July and fundraising for Mummy’s Wish means you’re making a difference to families affected by a mum’s cancer diagnosis.

Your support helps us provide care packs for kids, including books to help them understand what’s going on, and our beloved comfort bears to cuddle 🧸

Already, this year’s Dry July campaign has raised just shy of $40,000, but more families need our support and we’d love to see that total continue to grow in the final weeks of the challenge.
