Hello everyone,
On Saturday the Boulia Turf Club committee held a meeting to decide the future of the Races for 2026.
Unfortunately, the event has been cancelled for 2026.
As a committee we had to take into account the extensive flooding to the south and west, which hugely impacts our crowd attendance and hampers our volunteers.
Secondly the fuel situation has a lot of people worried and would potentially impact the ability of spectators and especially trainers to attend the event, as Iโm sure everyone can understand it would be no fun filling a truck right now and that could get a lot worse in weeks to come.
Thirdly, due to rising costs of everything the committee would have to spend $26-$30,000 to hold the event and with the prospect of a potentially very small crowd, this could really affect the committees future.
This is not an isolated event with many races and events being cancelled in the area at this time.
We understand the frustrations that everyone feels, and believe us, youโre not alone. However donโt throw the frocks on marketplace just yet. We are planning an event, a mock races if you like, with fashions on the field, games, activities and a band, at a later date.
