FUTURE PROOF IS BACK - AT THE BLOCK

We had a deadly time at our last Future Proof workshop, with two original songs recorded that are now getting ready for release on Spotify and Apple Music.

This Thursday 3rd & Friday 4th September, Future Proof returns to the Knox Studio, presented by Bad Apples Music and Nakama Arts, with special guest mentor Rulla Music.

Know a young person who raps, sings, writes or wants to make music? Come through. Work alongside a professional artist, create and record your own track, then we’ll send it off to Bad Apples Music to be professionally mixed and mastered for release.

Music not your thing? No worries — we’ll have our usual fitness, sport and games, or just come along, listen, chill, grab a feed and connect.

LEADERS…

Yaama Big Gaba Nginda to the 27 young people who showed up at The Block last night - another deadly night of connection, food, laughs and learning together.
Each week we provide the opportunity for two young leaders to step up and support in different parts of the program. It gives our young people real responsibility, builds confidence and creates opportunities to lead by example for everyone around them.

Big shoutout to Ashley for stepping up and taking the lead in the kitchen last night - helping prepare and serve the feed and showing what leadership looks like through action.

“Step up and Lead by example that how you bring others with you.”

GADJI GADJI - REGROWING LANGUAGE & CULTURE

Gadji Gadji means “regrowth” and that’s exactly what these deadly women are about.

Based in Boggabilla and now with a permanent home at The Block – Place-Based Cultural Learning & Wellness Space, the Gadji Gadji Women’s Group is creating a culturally safe space for women to come together, yarn, heal, learn and share knowledge.

Led by Aunty Bernadette Duncan, the women are reconnecting with and strengthening Gamilaraay language, native plants and medicines, bush foods, gardening, stories and cultural knowledge. Not just for themselves, but so that knowledge continues into the next generation.

That intergenerational connection is a big part of the journey. The women are building opportunities to share what they know with the younger ones coming through The Block, making sure language and culture are not just remembered, but spoken, practised and lived.

This year, the Gadji Gadji women also proudly hosted our NAIDOC celebrations, bringing elders together through culture, food, language and connection.
And there’s more growing…..

The women are now looking at stepping into the Knox Studio to record songs, including songs in Gamilaraay language. Another way of capturing knowledge, sharing stories and creating something that our kids, grandkids and community can carry forward.

For the women themselves, this is also about healing. Having their own space. Being together. Sharing stories. Laughing. Learning. Growing food. Creating. Reconnecting with culture and strengthening one another.

Regrowth doesn’t happen overnight hey?

It starts with planting something, nurturing it and making sure the next generation knows how to keep it growing. That’s responsibility in action.

Gadji Gadji….
Women. Language. Culture. Healing. Regrowth.

Community Notice – The Block Program

The Block Program, delivered from The Block Cultural Wellbeing & Learning Space, will not be running today or tomorrow.

Our team is undertaking professional development and quality improvement training to strengthen the way we deliver our program. This investment helps ensure we continue providing a safe, culturally grounded and high-quality program for all participants.

The Block Program supports participants by providing:

• A safe and welcoming place to connect.
• Positive mentors and role models.
• Connection to culture, Country and language.
• Healthy meals and shared experiences.
• Music, creative arts, sport and recreation.
• Cultural learning, wellbeing and life skills.
Safe transport to and from the program.
• Opportunities to learn alongside Elders, who will join us throughout the year to share knowledge, stories and meals together.

Our late-night program provides a safe and positive environment during times when participants are most at risk of boredom and disengagement, keeping them active, connected, mentored and empowered to make positive choices.

• From next week, our program will run:

• Thursday | 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm

• Music production, recording and songwriting.
• Creative arts, sport and mentoring.
• Shared meal and transport.

• Friday | 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm

• On-Country cultural learning.
• Gamilaraay language, song and dance.
• Bush foods, yarning circles and cultural activities.
• Shared meal and transport.

Thank you for your understanding. We apologise for any inconvenience and look forward to seeing everyone back next week.
