❤️ WHAT A DAY TO REMEMBER ❤️

On Monday, we gathered together to celebrate something truly special.

After 53 years as the Aboriginal Sobriety Group, we officially launched our new name and identity:

YANGADLITYA
✨ For the Future ✨

It was a day filled with pride, emotion, reflection, and hope.

Together we honoured the legacy of our founders, the Elders, leaders, staff, volunteers, and community members who built the strong foundation we stand on today.

We reflected on the stories that have shaped ASG over the last 53 years.

Stories of healing.
Stories of recovery.
Stories of culture.
Stories of community.
Stories that remind us why this organisation has always meant so much to so many people.

While our name has changed, our commitment remains the same.

Yangadlitya continues to walk alongside Aboriginal people, families, and communities through healing, recovery, social and emotional wellbeing, cultural reconnection, advocacy, and community support.

We were also proud to launch our new Strategic Plan 2026–2030, setting out a strong vision for the future and our commitment to creating stronger outcomes for future generations.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us on the day.

To Uncle Moogy Sumner for the beautiful Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony.

To Aunty Polly Sumner and our Board for their leadership and guidance.

To the Deputy Premier for sharing a special video message of congratulations.

To our partners, stakeholders, and supporters who continue to walk alongside us.

To our incredible staff, thank you for your dedication and passion.

And to our community, thank you for trusting us, supporting us, and helping shape who we are today.

We were also honoured to recognise several people whose contributions have helped build the organisation we celebrate today:

🏆 Michael Barron – 15 Years of Service
🏆 Ramla Mogilda – 15 Years of Service
🏆 Jackie Vincent – 10 Years of Service
🏆 Leigh Rigney – Foundation and Legacy Recognition
🏆 Kenneth Sumner – Foundation and Legacy Recognition
🏆 Antonio Highfield – Lifetime Member Recognition

Congratulations and thank you for everything you have given to community.

As we begin this new chapter, we do so proudly, knowing that Yangadlitya stands on the shoulders of those who came before us.

The future is bright.
The future is community.
The future is culture.
The future is healing.
The future is Yangadlitya.

💪🏾 Week 9 – Warpuwiltarninthi Men’s Group 💪🏾

This week, we were fortunate to have Uncle Tony lead our session, taking the group through a few rounds of boxing. It was a great way to build strength, fitness, confidence, and overall wellbeing while encouraging each other to step outside our comfort zones.

Before the session, we shared a good yarn and reflected on the journey we've been on together over the past 9 weeks. The conversations highlighted just how much this group has grown, not only in participation but in the strong connections and support networks that have been built along the way.

One of the biggest positives to come from the group has been the sense of brotherhood and belonging. Men have been able to come together, share experiences, support one another, and focus on their physical, social, emotional, and cultural wellbeing in a safe and positive space.

As we move closer to the end of the 12-week program, the conversation turned to how we can continue supporting one another beyond the formal sessions. The commitment from the group was clear—we want to stay connected, check in with each other, and make ourselves available whenever a mate needs support.

A strong community doesn't end when a program finishes. The relationships, trust, and support we've built over these weeks will continue long after the 12 weeks are complete.

A big thank you to Uncle Tony for sharing his time, knowledge, and energy with the group this week. 👏🏾🥊

As our men gather for Weeks 7 and 8 of the 12-week Warpuwiltarninthi Men’s Program, it’s been powerful to see the strength, honesty, and leadership continuing to grow within the group. 💪🏽🔥

During Week 7, the men were joined by special guest Dudley Campbell from Aboriginal Community Connect, who shared valuable insights around supporting our community through drug and alcohol challenges, along with the services available for those needing support.

The discussion encouraged the men to reflect on how they can take action in their own lives to create positive change for themselves, their families, and the broader community. It was inspiring to witness the ideas, commitment, and leadership shown throughout the session. 🌿

In Week 8, the focus shifted to Unity and the belief that when we share a vision, we can accomplish great things together.

The men spoke powerfully about leading by example and how positive leadership can inspire everyone around us to become better people. Together, we shared our vision for stronger families, healthier communities, and becoming role models for the next generation to look up to and follow.

It continues to be incredible watching the brothers open up, support one another, and speak honestly about the future they want to create.

We are super proud of all the men for their courage, leadership, and commitment to building a stronger path forward for community. 🔥💛

🌿 Week 6 – Warpuwiltarninthi Aboriginal Men’s Group 🌿

This week, we were privileged to welcome Eugene Warrior Jnr from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, who came to talk with the men about the upcoming Census and why it’s important for our communities.

The focus of the week was on culture and country, asking the men to reflect on where they come from, the cultural practices they’ve learned, and who taught them. These discussions sparked a deeper conversation about what it means to be a strong Aboriginal man.

Despite coming from different backgrounds, the men shared a common understanding: to be a strong Aboriginal man is to be brave, strong, and proud.

We also reflected on the divides that exist between Aboriginal mobs across Australia. While our histories and practices may differ, we are all proud men. These differences should not separate us—they should strengthen our connection to community, building unity while honoring where we came from.

This week reminded us that our strength lies in our shared pride and resilience, and together, we can continue to support and uplift our mobs. 💪🏾🌏

The Aboriginal Sobriety Group in the Riverland has facilitated the Rinta Ruwe Ninkawi’s Group for 8 years. The Rinta Ruwe Ninkawi’s group is dedicated to supporting mothers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children by providing a safe, respectful, and culturally responsive environment. The group adopts a holistic approach to wellbeing, recognising the importance of supporting the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual health of mothers as a foundation for strong and resilient families.

The group aims to empower mothers to build and sustain stronger, safer, and healthier relationships with themselves, their children, and their broader family networks, contributing to improved long-term outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.

Week 5 – Warpuwiltarninthi Men’s Group

This week, our Men’s Group came together with great energy and connection. We were looking forward to a guest speaker, but unfortunately, they were unable to join us. Despite this, the group didn’t miss a beat. We held an open and meaningful discussion, offering encouragement and support to one another.

The theme that emerged from our conversation was powerful and simple: You are worthy. Each member shared insights, stories, and reflections that reminded us all of our value and the importance of supporting one another.

It was a strong reminder that even when plans change, the strength of the group and the courage to speak openly can create a truly impactful session. We can’t wait to see everyone again next week!
