Big changes are coming to the NDIS, and SydWest and Participate Australia is here to help you understand them.

The recently passed NDIS Amendment Bill 2026 includes a number of reforms aimed at protecting participants.

Some of the key changes include:
✅ Stronger protections against fraud, including a ban on provider kickbacks and incentives that could influence participant choice.

✅ Greater flexibility for participants seeking an unscheduled reassessment, with changes no longer needing to be "unanticipated" to be considered.

✅ New rules around functional capacity assessments, ensuring people aren't disadvantaged for using everyday supports such as glasses, hearing aids or walking sticks.

✅ Additional safeguards for participants with high support needs, including protections for those requiring 24-hour care.

As these changes are introduced, it's important that people with disability, families and carers have access to clear information. More information can be found here:

We're committed to helping our community understand what these changes mean and navigate the NDIS with confidence.

💙

The National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 will make changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013. This fact sheet is a summary of recent amendments agreed to in response to feedback.

Winter Adventures: Finding Joy Through Art, Culture and Connection

This winter, our Centre-Based Respite group swapped outdoor scenery for a day of art, culture, and fresh seafood.

At the Art Gallery of NSW, clients immersed themselves in fascinating exhibitions, asking questions, exploring different time periods and artistic styles, and enjoying guided tours. It was especially heartwarming to see one client living with dementia become fully engaged, enthusiastically pointing out her favourite artworks.

The day wrapped up with a visit to the Sydney Fish Markets, plenty of steps, lots of smiles, and fresh seafood to take home.

As one client shared, "I don't usually get to go out like this, and I didn't think a market could be so fun!"

Celebrating the next generation of changemakers!

SydWest was proud to support the Cumberland & Parramatta Young Champions Awards Gala recently, recognising the outstanding achievements of young people across Greater Western Sydney.
