Big changes are coming to the NDIS, and SydWest and Participate Australia is here to help you understand them.
The recently passed NDIS Amendment Bill 2026 includes a number of reforms aimed at protecting participants.
Some of the key changes include:
✅ Stronger protections against fraud, including a ban on provider kickbacks and incentives that could influence participant choice.
✅ Greater flexibility for participants seeking an unscheduled reassessment, with changes no longer needing to be "unanticipated" to be considered.
✅ New rules around functional capacity assessments, ensuring people aren't disadvantaged for using everyday supports such as glasses, hearing aids or walking sticks.
✅ Additional safeguards for participants with high support needs, including protections for those requiring 24-hour care.
