Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Everyone deserves to age with dignity, respect and safety.

At SydWest, we're proud to support older people from diverse communities to stay connected, independent and informed. Together, we can help raise awareness of elder abuse and create communities where every older person feels valued and respected.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available.

🌏✨ Refugee Week 2026 ✨🌏
Meet Clement. Arriving in Australia from South Sudan, his journey is one of resilience, determination, and purpose.

After facing the challenges of starting over in a new country, Clement found support through community programs that helped him build confidence and connection.

Today, he is a senior manager in a specialist refugee resettlement support service and on many advisory boards, using his experiences to give back and support others in the community.
His message is clear: build systems that value people, not paperwork β€” and remember that a moment of dignity can leave a lifelong impact.

This Refugee Week, we celebrate the strength, courage, and contributions of people like Clement. 🌟

Meet Khatol. After more than 28 years in Australia, she continues to give back - supporting others as they navigate their own resettlement journeys.

Originally from Kabul, Khatol now works as a generalist case worker with SydWest, walking alongside newly arrived refugees as they build their lives in a new country.

Through her work, she reminds us that belonging is not something separate - it’s something we build together, every day.

Her message is clear: refugees are not separate from Australia - we are part of what makes it strong. Like a tree, with roots, trunk, and leaves, we are all interconnected and grow stronger together.

This Refugee Week, we celebrate the unity, strength, and shared future we create as one community. 🌟

Looking to make positive changes everywhere

One million refugees have been welcomed by Australia since World War II. Refugee Week 2026 is a moment to reflect on that milestone and to celebrate the million stories behind it.
