Today we are celebrating the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.

Guru Nanak was born in 1469 in Punjab and he was the reformer. He challenged the prevalent thoughts and rituals and started a new religion called Sikhism. Sikh means “To learn”. Guru Nanak was followed by 9 more Gurus and Sikhism was formalised in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh. After Guru Gobind Singh, Sikhs consider the Holy book Guru Granth Sahib as their living Guru. Guru Nanak started composing the Guru Granth Sahib and It contains verses of Sikh Gurus and Saints regardless of their religion.

Guru Nanak travelled more than 28,000KM in his lifetime and covered most of Asia and some parts of Europe.

Some of his messages are:
1. Challenge every ritual and belief
2. Live truthfully
3. Work honestly
4. Share with disadvantaged
5. Believe in One God
6. The same God abides in everything
7. Live as per the natural laws

When Guru Nanak left his physical form, his followers, who were Hindus and Muslims, debated to do the last rites as per their rituals.

Best wishes for everyone on Guru Ji’s journey on his birthday

Happy Guru Purab
