🌾✨ Supporting the next generation of artists ✨🌾

At Red Ridge, we're passionate about providing opportunities for young and emerging artists to share their creativity and connect with our community.

One of these talented artists is Dakota Baillie, whose work is inspired by the country she knows and loves. Living on her family's property outside of Blackall, Dakota paints the landscapes, livestock and everyday moments that surround her while helping with the horses, sheep and cattle.

Her authentic connection to life on the land shines through in every piece, capturing the beauty and spirit of the outback with honesty and heart.

We're proud to showcase Dakota's artwork alongside established artists, celebrating local talent and encouraging the next generation of creative voices.

Language week in Birdsville with Joyce and Jean :)

Arru! Hello!

Recently, we gathered in Wirarri (Birdsville) for a Wangkangurru/Yarluyandi Language and Music Workshop, bringing together young and old to share our language, stories and songs. Together, we wrote songs that will feature in the first Wangkangurru/Yarluyandi Community Songbook.

It was wonderful to work alongside musicians from Adelaide and Alice Springs, who helped us sing our songs in both English and Wangkangurru/Yarluyandi with the Birdsville children. We were also honoured to have the support of our respected Elders, Uncle Arthur and brother Jim.

The biggest highlight was seeing the excitement on the children's faces. They arrived early each day for the chance to record in the Gig Rig, a recording studio on wheels. Watching school and station kids learn language through games like charades, Emu, Emu, Dingo and the body parts game made the week even more rewarding.

Although the workshop was five busy days of long hours, we worked together and achieved something truly special.

Teaching our younger generation keeps our language and music alive, filling us with pride and hope. We hope today's children will grow up speaking, singing and sharing Wangkangurru/Yarluyandi with future generations. Learning language can be challenging, but music makes it easier—put the words to a tune, and you'll be singing in language before you know it.

The Wangkangurru/Yarluyandi Community Songbook will soon be published by the University of Adelaide, so stay tuned and sing along with us.

🎪🤠 Matt Young brought the circus to town... in Thargo! 🎶✨

The laughs were loud, the energy was contagious, and the crowd was entertained from start to finish as Matt Young's Circus Carnival Cabaret rolled into Thargomindah as part of the Channel Country Music Muster.

It was the perfect mix of country hospitality and carnival fun, adding something truly unique to an already fantastic week of entertainment.

You never know who will walk through the doors at Red Ridge!

While on a four-week painting trip, visiting artist Denis Harrold called into the gallery — and what a wonderful surprise it turned out to be.

Denis had been working on an artwork during his travels, finished it just yesterday, and decided to bring it into the gallery… where it found a new home on display at Red Ridge.

At 73 years of age, Denis has only been painting for two years — but his talent and dedication are already being recognised across the art world.

His recent achievements include:
🎨 Finalist in the Pro Hart Outback Prize Broken Hill 2026 (with his finalist entry recently submitted)
🎨 Finalist in the John Villiers Outback Prize Winton
🎨 Finalist in the John D. Bowe Prize, selected from just 15 finalists out of 566 entries

Today, Denis has continued his creative journey right here in Blackall, working next door in Sandy McLean The Outback Artist 's studio/gallery.
