Light up your world PINK! for World Sepsis Day, 13th September 2026.

Communities across the country will shine PINK to raise awareness of Sepsis and honour the patients, survivors, bereaved and their loved ones affected by Sepsis.

Sepsis affects 84,000 Australians and sadly we lose 12,000 Australians every year. That’s more than Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer and The national Road Toll combined (Sepsis Australia, 2026)

🩷 Wearing PINK and sharing your photos
🩷 Asking your council, MP to light up a local land mark PINK
🩷 Share your story or your loved ones sepsis story to raise awareness.

Sepsis Advocates will keep working to stop preventable deaths due to Sepsis.

“I’d seen sepsis written on ambulances. But that’s for old people... Not for a rugby-playing fit young man.” - Harriet Beveridge

When Harriet’s 17-year-old son Tom became unwell with what she initially thought was just a cold, sepsis never crossed her mind.

The sporty teenager – who plays rugby and hockey and hopes to study medicine at university – rapidly deteriorated after developing Covid-19 and streptococcal pneumonia.

His breathing became dangerously fast and shallow, his skin turned a “crazy grey”, and his body began to shut down.

Thankfully, swift recognition at a local walk-in clinic and urgent hospital treatment saved his life.

Now recovered, Harriet is sharing Tom’s story to encourage parents to trust their instincts when something doesn’t feel right.

Sharing with sensitivity. Lia died from maternal sepsis caused by a UTI when her son was 3 days old. Another preventable sepsis death declared by the coroner in Australia. Our thoughts are with her loved ones.

Gia Lam gave birth to her son and was dead three days later. A coronial inquest found her death was preventable. Her family are now breaking their silence.

As we head into the weekend, it is a reminder that sepsis is a medical emergency. Minutes can be the difference between life and death. If something isn't right, ask - COULD IT BE SEPSIS?
