The Science and Engineering Challenge is on again this year on Tuesday July 28 at Girton Grammar. Up to 8 schools will be represented by their respective teams consisting of 32 year ten students. There are 8 practical problem solving activities that 4 students from each school tackle. Points are accumulated and totalled at all activities with a winning school emerging at days end. Hands on problem solving and team work are the main aim of the event as well as finding a winning team that moves into a state final.

The shared Rotary knitting project provides knitted garments to families in Timor Leste. A variety of garments are knitted by volunteers from many parts of Victoria along with further items received from Queensland and New South Wales. The items are delivered to Bendigo, sorted and then pressed into wool packs and shipped to Dili for distribution in villages in the mountains. Photos below show goods being distributed from a shipment sent two years. We were informed this week that 5 bales sent in April have just arrived in Dili.

The club invited a worthy winner of its recent health science scholarship from Latrobe University Bendigo to speak to members. The Rotary Club has a range of scholarships it presents annually to year ten secondary school to others undergoing studies at both TAFE and Latrobe. The club also provides an additional scholarship to a year 12 student from the Bendigo Senior Secondary College who is recognised as the musician of the year. On the International front scholarships are also awarded to Timorese students to encourage them to further their local education.

A good morning's work by our Volunteer Gardening team pictured here with venue coordinator Steph. Our relationship with Annie North commenced ten years ago when the club raffled a boat and donated the proceeds to fund the outdoor kitchen at the then new facility. From that time our club has helped maintain the garden.

In memory of our past and highly respected member Ron Devereaux daughter Annette made a very generous donation to our club from Ron's estate. President Lindsay is pictured gratefully accepting the cheque. Ron's grandson also pictured offering his support. Further good news is that Annette will be transferring her membership from the Geelong East club and will honour her father by joining The our club heading into the next Rotary Year.
