Yesterday was a bit of everything at the Benaraby Repair Help Desk! 😁

🧵 We had our Learn to Sew workshop, with people learning their way around a sewing machine and making a tote bag to take home.

🎨 Our Community Mosaic came out again and had a few more pieces added.

🔧 We even managed to squeeze in a few repairs!

We also had a couple of new faces pop in just to see what the Repair Help Desk was all about… and they ended up leaving with something to work on for next time. 😂 We love that!

And of course, there was plenty of tea, coffee and brownies to keep everyone going. ☕🍫

Thanks to everyone who came along, helped out, learnt something new or just stopped in for a look. It was a really lovely morning. ❤️

🧵 Got a sewing machine but no idea what to do with it?

Or maybe you've always thought "I'd love to learn to sew one day."

Tomorrow could be the day. 😊

We're keeping it really simple — we'll teach you the basics of using a sewing machine while you make a tote bag to take home.

Absolute beginners are very welcome. Adults, teenagers, parents and kids — you don't need any sewing experience at all.

Machines and materials are supplied, or bring your own machine and learn how to use it.

🔧 Okay everyone... what's broken at your place?

Seriously. Have a look in the shed. The kitchen drawer. That cupboard where things go because you're definitely going to fix them one day. 😂

Bring it to us this Sunday.

A broken chair. Blunt garden tools. A torn shirt. A favourite mug. A lawn mower that won't behave. A toy that's lost a wheel. Something with a broken handle.

If you're not sure whether we can fix it, bring it anyway and we'll have a look.

The Benaraby Repair Help Desk is completely FREE and run by volunteers who genuinely enjoy figuring out how to fix things.

Got garden gear that's not pulling its weight anymore?

Whether it's a pair of secateurs that won't cut, hedge trimmers that have gone blunt, or a lawn mower or whipper snipper that's not quite right, bring it along to the Benaraby Repair Help Desk.

Our volunteers love helping people get a bit more life out of things.

It's free, it's volunteer-run, and if we can help keep another useful item out of landfill, that's a win for everyone.

Our Learn to Sew workshop is something you can do together! Come along, learn the basics of using a sewing machine and work together to make a tote bag to take home.

No sewing experience needed — for kids or grown-ups! 😄 Kids are welcome, they’ll just need a parent or guardian to stay and join in.

🏺 Broken doesn’t mean it’s finished!

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery and making the cracks part of the story, rather than hiding them.

We reckon that fits the Benaraby Repair Help Desk pretty well. 💛

Before you throw something broken away, bring it along and see if our volunteers can help give it another life.

Repair Help Desk is a free volunteer service run on the second Sunday of the month from 9.00am to 12.00pm at the Benaraby Hall. 🔧🧵🏺

A missing button, split seam, broken zip or small tear doesn't have to mean the end of your favourite clothes.

Our Repair Help Desk is run by volunteers who enjoy helping people repair, rather than replace. Bring along your clothing repairs and we'll see what we can do—completely free of charge.
