๐Ÿ‘€ Supervision is more than simply watching children. Itโ€™s about being present, aware and responsive.

We had the pleasure of delivering Supervision Training to the wonderful team at ๐Ÿ“Wongan Hills Cubby House.

We started by unpacking what supervision currently looks like within their own service, from their structure, team dynamics, routines, policies and procedures.

From there, we collaboratively developed a clear and consistent supervision approach, grounded in their context and everyday practice. This process helped strengthen safe practices and ensured every educator had a shared understanding of their role in actively keeping children safe.

Together, we reflected on the realities of busy environments and what it really means to be present, intentional, and responsive in supervision - not just positioned, but truly engaged.

Many neurodivergent educators are incredible problem-solvers and deeply caring team members. In our fast-paced ECEC environments, it can feel natural to jump in, take on extra responsibilities, support everyone else and try to solve every challenge that arises throughout the day.

But constantly operating in โ€œhelper modeโ€ without checking in on your own capacity can quickly lead to overwhelm and burnout.

One powerful strategy is learning to pause and reflect:
โ“ Is this within my role or scope right now?
โ“ Do I have the emotional, mental or physical capacity for this today?
โ“ What support might I need before taking this on?

Fluctuating capacity is common for many neurodivergent individuals. Having different energy levels, focus or executive functioning from one day to the next isnโ€™t laziness, but part of understanding and working with your nervous system, not against it.

Creating psychologically safe workplaces means recognising that support, boundaries and self-awareness benefit everyone on the team, ultimately creating better environments for children too.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What helps you check in with your own capacity during busy days?

We are thrilled to introduce our next keynote speakers for this year's Little People, Big Dreams Conference - Jessica Staines. ๐ŸŒŸ

Jessica is a Wiradjuri woman, founder of the award-winning The Koori Curriculum, and has spent over 15 years working alongside educators across Australia to embed Aboriginal culture and perspectives into everyday early childhood practice.

Her keynote this year is:
โœจ Windows, Mirrors and Sliding Doors: Creating Early Childhood Spaces Where Every Child Belongs

This keynote is for every educator who believes that every child deserves to feel seen, valued and like they truly belong. Jessica will explore how we create learning environments that reflect children's identities, open windows to other cultures, and build real empathy and connection.

We know this will be one of those sessions that stays with you. ๐Ÿ’›

When children are building, pretending, exploring, running, creating or simply wondering, they're developing critical skills that support their growth and development. Yet play is often misunderstood as "just keeping children busy."

This International Day of Play, we unpack why play is one of the most powerful tools for learning, how it connects to the EYLF and why protecting uninterrupted play time matters.

A stick becomes a fishing rod. ๐ŸŽฃ A cardboard tube becomes a telescope. ๐Ÿ”ญ A collection of loose parts becomes an opportunity to think, create, adapt and persist.

When children engage with loose parts play, there isn't a "right" answer or a set of instructions to follow. Instead, they are encouraged to experiment, problem-solve and navigate challenges independently.
You can try this at home or in your service:
โœ”๏ธ Rotate materials regularly to spark new ideas
โœ”๏ธ Include natural and recycled items with different textures, sizes and shapes
โœ”๏ธ Resist the urge to solve problems straight away and give children time to test their own solutions
โœ”๏ธ Ask open-ended questions such as "What could this become?" or "What might happen if...?"

We're curious... Drop your questions about loose parts play in the comments or share a fun fact or experience from your own setting.

๐Ÿงญ Guiding childrenโ€™s behaviour starts with what we say and how we show up

We delivered a Part 1 of PD series on "Introduction to Guiding Behaviours" with the Kindra Early Learning Honeywood team.

The session was highly interactive, with lots of group work and reflection. The team, already experienced with the NQF Quest Cards, deepened their thinking around everyday practice, especially how the language we use with children can land differently than intended, and how this shapes behaviour, connection and outcomes.

We also explored reflective scenarios around educator responses and the impact of tone, timing and intention in guiding behaviour in respectful, developmentally appropriate ways.

๐Ÿคณ Myth vs Reality: Are โ€œeducationalโ€ apps always safe? ๐Ÿ“ฒ

Itโ€™s easy to assume apps made for children are safe, but many still contain advertising or collect user data.

We use digital platforms every day - for observations, photos, planning and communication with families. Some of us even use AI to check grammar, rewrite documentation or help draft policies. Itโ€™s become part of everyday practice.

But as technology becomes more embedded in early learning, it also raises important questions.
โ“ How do we make sure weโ€™re using it intentionally?
โ“ How do we protect childrenโ€™s information?
โ“ And how do we balance digital tools with meaningful, play-based learning?
