What a wonderful evening celebrating an extraordinary 2025/26 season at the Yamba Surf Life Saving Club Annual Dinner & Awards Night. It was fantastic to see so many members, families, supporters and special guests come together to recognise another incredible year for our club.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of our two major club awards.

🏆 Surf Life Saver of the Year was awarded to Sean Newton-Thompson. Sean’s outstanding service to surf lifesaving has spanned from his days as a Nipper at Cudgen SLSC, to patrolling beaches in Cornwall, UK, and now as a respected Patrol Captain here at Yamba. Sean is highly regarded by his patrol team and plays an important mentoring role for the large group of cadets on his crew. He consistently steps up for water safety at special events, and we are grateful to have his whole family actively involved in the club. Congratulations Sean — a very well deserved recognition.

🏆 Club Person of the Year was awarded to Tash Hancock. Tash has dedicated many years of service to the club through roles including JAC Committee member, Age Manager, and now Youth Development Officer, where she works tirelessly to keep our 13–17 year olds engaged and connected to the club. Tash has also been a valued member of the Boilers surf boat team and has recently transitioned into the women’s march past team. This award recognises Tash’s incredible commitment to both the club and the next generation of surf lifesavers. Congratulations Tash and thank you for everything you do.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the night such a success. We are incredibly proud of our members and all that has been achieved this season. 🖤💛

Such a great week for our club! 👏

A fantastic group of young members have just completed their Surf Rescue Certificate training, showing strong board skills and confidence in the water throughout.

You’ll be seeing Reed, Leo, Poppy, Lola, Clarry, Jude, Ziggy, Gracie, Lottie and Toby out on patrol next season — and we couldn’t be prouder.

A huge thank you to our Training Team and everyone working behind the scenes to make this happen. Special thanks to Jill, Tash, Jim, James F and Peter for their time, support and commitment to delivering the course. 💛❤️

Farewell Mookai.

Farewell Mookai.

Today we said goodbye to a true local… Mookai 🤍
A man who didn’t need a big fuss, just the ocean, his mates, and a good yarn.

He gave so much of himself to the surf club and to this community — mentoring the next generation, always showing up, and never saying no when someone needed a hand… “yep, righto” was about all you’d get.

A creature of habit, always early, always with a cigarette hanging out the side of his mouth, and always ready to stop for a chat — whether you knew him for years or just five minutes.

Today, he was rowed out and returned to the ocean — right where he belonged, in what he always called God’s Country. Scotts Head.

What an honour to volunteer my time to help create this beautiful send off for a true legand of our Valley...

Rest easy, Mookai.
