POREPUNKAH SHOOTER ARRESTS MAGISTRATE AND POLICE??? A LESSON IN WHY BEING A SOVEREIGN CITIZEN IS DOOMED TO FAIL.
A sovereign citizen is generally defined as:
➡️ A person who rejects the legitimacy of government authority (especially federal or state governments) and believes they are subject only to their own interpretation of common law or "natural law," not statutory laws.
They typically claim things like:
-They are not required to pay taxes, hold driver’s licenses, or register vehicles.
-Courts, police, and governments have no jurisdiction over them unless they give "consent."
-Legal loopholes in language, contracts, or paperwork can exempt them from laws.
⚖️ Legally: Courts in Australia, the U.S., and other countries consistently rule that "sovereign citizen" arguments have no legal basis. People who identify this way often end up in disputes with police, tax authorities, or courts because they refuse to comply with standard laws.
🔎 In short:
A sovereign citizen is someone who denies government authority over them while still living within that government’s territory, but the law does not recognize their claims.
💬 The problem with these beliefs is they generally boil down to the police or magistrate must arrest themselves. The idea that the system was designed to dismantle and impede itself is just insane. Ethical Standards can investigate police corruption, and IBACC can investigate corruption at all levels- but the idea that you can attend Court and demand that the police, prosecutor and magistrate arrest each other?
Its never going to happen. You risk alienating everyone in the Court by trying it on.
If you find yourself in Court, there is generally no 'Uno reversal card' that you can just whip out. The process is complex. The language is difficult. You're better off to seek legal advice or get a lawyer to talk for you. Demanding the Court arrest itself is a short road to being treated like an idiot and losing any chance of being heard.
Don't do it. 100% it will never happen like that.
(Just to be clear- I don't support the Porepunkah shooter, I think what happened is a terrible loss of life and wish sincere condolences to the families involved. Attacking the police will never end well.)
