CEO Geoff Rowe in The Australian today, starting the conversation that's been missing about aged care - what are the solutions that could support older people to age at home and relieve pressure on the current system? "Additional funding is not going to fall easily from the sky - we have to look at how we can use what we have more effectively"

1. Make home care more nimble - redirect investment
2. Scale what already works - restorative, preventative and acute-care health programs that keep people out of hospital
3. Shared care in Support at Home
4. Home-share intergenerational living arrangements.

The problems in the aged-care system are no longer surprising but deeply frustrating.

Today on National Sorry Day, we remember and acknowledge the Stolen Generations - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families, communities and culture.

It also marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June). The 2026 theme, All In, calls on all Australians to commit to reconciliation every day, recognising that real change requires collective action.

At ADA Australia, we remain committed to supporting and advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, older people and people with disability across Queensland.

This National Volunteer Week, we recognise the incredible people who help to support older people in aged care. This system relies on the hard work of volunteers from a range of organisations, from Meals on Wheels and Aged Care Visitor Programs to Friendline.

Aged Care is built on the generosity of volunteers who help older people stay connected, and ensure they feel supported and valued in their communities 💛

For the month of May in our 2026 QLD Seniors Calendar, we’re reflecting on the words of David Bowie: “Ageing is an extraordinary process whereby you become the person you always should have been.” Paired with Linda’s reflection on reaching out and sharing, it’s a gentle reminder that connection matters at every stage of life 🍎🍅🍓

The program is an initiative of Celebrate Ageing . To view the full project report or for more information about hosting a project, go to https://www.celebrateageing.com/beautiful.html

CEO Geoff Rowe talks about the NDIS and its future with Greg Ross on The Last Post Radio Show. There's been a lot of media about the cost of the scheme. The intent of the NDIS was to pay for itself and that it would cost the government more to do nothing. This is still the case, but we now need to find solutions to keep the scheme affordable, so it can continue to support people with disability to live their lives.

At ADA Australia, we see every day the role women play as carers, advocates and supporters for others. Mums and mother‑figures take on an enormous, often unseen load - caring for children, supporting family members with disability, and looking after ageing parents, all while juggling their own lives. This Mother’s Day, we encourage everyone to spoil the mums in their lives!
