🚲 A friendly PSA for everyone getting around the neighbourhood 🚗
With state government proposals to limit pedal-assist bikes to 10km/h on shared paths, more of us may soon be sharing the road with moving traffic. It's a good reminder for all of us to look out for each other a little more carefully.
🚲 Cyclists & e-mobility riders
As you approach a side street or entrance, please don't assume the driver has seen you — or that they'll stop. Watch the wheels. They'll start rolling before the vehicle visibly moves, giving you that precious extra moment to react. Trust what you see, not what you hope. Unless you're a Jedi, and then you can mind read.😊
A collision could mean time off work, rehab, and a long road back. You can't afford to take that chance.
🚗 Drivers
When emerging from a side street, please come to a complete stop — not a slow roll. A full stop removes all doubt for everyone around you. The cyclist doesn't have to guess, doesn't have to brake, and everyone keeps moving.
A couple of other things that really matter:
👀 Eye contact is reassurance — be mindful that tinted windows and low light can make this impossible. If they can't see your eyes, they don't know you've seen them.
↔️ Check both directions before pulling out — people on footpaths can come from either side.
We live here. Let's all get home safely. 🏡
