I've just recorded my video for Bicycle Queensland campaign. The proposed e-mobility legislation will have a real impact on anyone who rides a safe legal bike.

If you want to add your voice, record a short video (under a minute) saying who you are and what this legislation would mean for you. Post it to your own Instagram or Facebook and tag Bicycle Queensland, or send a link to [email protected].

It doesn't need to be polished. The more voices the better.

Ashgrove and Red Hill locals 📢

Please share this with neighbours who rely on this walking and wheeling route - especially parents with young children and older members of the community. Notice has been very short.

The Ithaca Creek bikeway bridge near 32 Nathan Avenue will be closed from this Thursday 19 March for approximately one week, with works continuing through to early April.

Council is replacing the timber deck boards and girders (works 7am-5pm). The detour is via Betheden Terrace and Waterworks Road, and if you know that route, you'll know it's a bit of a goat track. (Edit: Council have added an additional detour route now, which is longer but gentler).

If you have any questions, please contact the project team on 3178 0093 during business hours or email [email protected]. For after‑hours enquiries, please contact Council’s 24‑hour Contact Centre on 3403 8888.

Thanks to Brisbane West BUG for the heads up!

🚲 A friendly PSA for everyone getting around the neighbourhood 🚗

With state government proposals to limit pedal-assist bikes to 10km/h on shared paths, more of us may soon be sharing the road with moving traffic. It's a good reminder for all of us to look out for each other a little more carefully.

🚲 Cyclists & e-mobility riders
As you approach a side street or entrance, please don't assume the driver has seen you — or that they'll stop. Watch the wheels. They'll start rolling before the vehicle visibly moves, giving you that precious extra moment to react. Trust what you see, not what you hope. Unless you're a Jedi, and then you can mind read.😊

A collision could mean time off work, rehab, and a long road back. You can't afford to take that chance.

🚗 Drivers
When emerging from a side street, please come to a complete stop — not a slow roll. A full stop removes all doubt for everyone around you. The cyclist doesn't have to guess, doesn't have to brake, and everyone keeps moving.

A couple of other things that really matter:
👀 Eye contact is reassurance — be mindful that tinted windows and low light can make this impossible. If they can't see your eyes, they don't know you've seen them.
↔️ Check both directions before pulling out — people on footpaths can come from either side.

We live here. Let's all get home safely. 🏡

Brisbane City Council in 2025-26 by the numbers:

Population: 1.36 million residents
Annual budget: $4.1 billion
Number of new footpaths this year: 23
Number of new zebra crossings this year: 1
Number of new wombat crossings installed this year: 1
Number of new bikeway projects being constructed this year: 1

That’s an average of one active transport project per Council Ward. Or one per 52,000 residents.

That's quite a shocking record by the largest local government in Australia, wouldn't you agree?

🌳 Enchanted Forest Playground – Have Your Say!
Council is seeking community feedback on concept plans for the upgraded playground at Dorrington.

If you can’t make an in-person session, please share your thoughts using the link below.

We've noted that walking and cycling connections aren’t included in the current concept plan — so they may miss out on feedback unless we raise them. The car park is also small, so the more people who can arrive without driving, the greater the playground’s overall capacity and accessibility.

Can a garden be designed to foster better community ties? Why you just might love what comes of adopting a more open front garden style.

🚲 Reminder for riders!

Ashgrove Library has excellent cycle parking. I was surprised to find my usual rack empty today, until I went around the corner and saw the shady rack nearly full. It's fantastic to see people supported in choosing active modes.😍

Now if only the footpaths leading there were better!😅

Jonty Bush - Member for Cooper speaking on the $300,000 transport study of the Waterworks Road transport corridor. Travel times are consistently trending up on this corridor and peak traffic speeds are below 30km/h. We badly need more options for getting people through this corridor in an efficient manner.

Great to see more e-cargo bikes around Ashgrove with people out running their errands 🚲🛒. Missed getting a photo of the mobility scooter at Aldi today, where someone was doing a small shop. The pic is from a previous visit there.
