New England Railway Inc Welcome to the official page of the New England Railway Incorporated (NER). NER owns and is restoring two 620 class railcar sets. All are welcome.

NER is active in the Northern Tablelands of NSW and currently has a depot at Armidale. After a bit of a break, the New England Railway Inc’ is back! However, we need your help. Located in Armidale, the New England Railway Inc’ is the proud owner of a number of historic former New South Wales Government Railways 620 type railmotors, and it is our intention to operate these railmotors once restored

from the Armidale Railway Station on all manner of journeys. The Great Northern Railway, as it is known, is recognised as one of the most scenic railways in Australia, and it is NERI’s dream to operate our trains along this railway line providing Armidale with a new tourist attraction, and the opportunity to take in some of Australia’s most beautiful scenery from the windows of our restored 1950’s railmotors. Before we can do all this, however, we’re in need of some help. At present, we are in need volunteers from all walks of life to assist us in realising our dream as well as materials to assist us on our way. If you have an interest in railways, an interest in anything old, or just a desire to get out of the house, then come and join us! Mechanical update:

Our two resident mechanics Reece and Jordan have just spent another weekend working on the motors.

Whilst Reece and Jordan continue to do their thing, we would really love to start working on the braking systems because there is no point having working motors if we can’t stop the train.

Work has commenced on the overhaul of the engines in 635.
Over the weekend oil and filter changes were complete along with pressure testing.
Shout out to Reece and Jordan who are both mechanics who have volunteered their time to help. On their next visit they intend cleaning and testing the fuel systems.
