The History of the Interclub Shield
The popular Interclub Competition was officially started in 1985. The idea came about after four good friends; Cam Cooper, Ted Wohlers, David McMillan and John McMillan, all very keen shooters, got together to discuss the idea of running an annual Interclub Competition incorporating all five shooting disciplines over one weekend. Big Bore, Small Bore, Pistol, Gun Club and Field and Game.
The concept of the annual event was to make all of the shooting events easy, to come and ‘have a go’ by trying something different with the aim of encouraging more new members for the five clubs. Making the shooting events easy with help available where needed from the different discipline experts has been the long-standing basis of the Competition. The Interclub Competition was created to foster good relationships between all five clubs, without a strong emphasis on winning.
Ted Wohlers donated the perpetual shield, which is engraved at the conclusion of the weekend and presented to the winning Club.
