Border Zipper Club The Border Zipper Club members have all undergone open heart surgery. We are kindly sponsored by the Haus of Meat

We meet regularly at a range of pubs in Albury, Wodonga or Rutherglen for lunch most months where we endeavour to have a guest speaker.

They say "It's no show without Punch" and it wouldn't be a Zipper club lunch without the ladies to keep us in line!
Heather, Carolyn and Shirley braved the elements and the Murray Valley Hwy pot-holes to join us at the Poachers yesterday - talk about roses among thorns!

Des tried to explain to Sam that on current form, Carlton wouldn't beat Kiewa (or Wahgunyah for that matter) and that Vossy was crucified when in reality, Carlton would have been better off sacking all of the first eighteen players and having Vossy take the field alone.
Doug was too busy checking the race results to take part in the conversation.

Not to be outdone in the photo stakes, Sam with his infamous meat tray (kindly donated by Haus of Meat, Birallee & Lavington) called on David Sinclair to draw the raffle.
By pure chance, remarkable coincidence and absolutely no shonky deals, David drew out Noel's ticket. It was later discovered that the bucket only had one ticket in it which belonged to the publican's father.
Paul was right onto it offering to carry it out to Noel's car.

22 of us sat down to lunch at Poachers Paradise Hotel on Tuesday to partake of a few ales (lo-carb, mid-strength of course) and lunch (low-salt options of course) as we listened to a most interesting presentation by David Sinclair, long-serving Chairman of the Ovens & Murray Football Netball League and Manager of Prime7 TV in Albury.
David's involvement with football began in 1991 when he joined the committee of Shepparton East Football Club and has continued to this day after relocating to Albury with his family to take up his role at Prime7. In that time he has steered OMFNL through many situations, amongst them the Covid crisis, the Wangaratta salary cap saga and the withdrawal of Corowa-Rutherglen in 2024 and their reappearance in 2025. He also successfully saw off an attempt by the AFL to force the league into a "hub" structure as the league has gone from strength to strength.
A most interesting presentation particularly with the presence of an OMFNL Hall of Famer in Zipper member, Des Richardson.
Thank you David!

It wouldn't be a Zipper Club lunch without Mr Entertainment and his guitar treating us to a musical interlude.
I'm not sure whether the videographer had one too many lemonades or was too busy selling his raffle tickets to notice his focus was a bit rough - or perhaps the aura that Rodney claims to project was upsetting Matt's concentration.
Either way, it was a great way to wind up the afternoon!

New member Ken Darling hit the jackpot at his first lunch by winning the meat tray so generously donated by The Haus Of Meat (Birralee and Lavington). Our guest speaker, Jamie Wolf, who drew the winning ticket doesn't look overly impressed being flanked by Sam and Rodney - but then being the rose between two thorns is always a tough gig!
Ken is pictured here with fellow members Matt Burke and Des Lonergan who were both heard trying to cadge an invite to Ken's place to help him get rid of those steaks.

Today's lunch at Edward's Tavern saw a few new members (welcome to Maggie, Ken and Royston) as we listened to Jamie Wolf, currently President of Wodonga RSL Sub-branch, give us a run down on his military career and life experiences following his time in the Army. Jamie has achieved many things in leadership roles and follows the mantra "The Standard You Set Is the One You Just Walked Past" which has enabled him to lead volunteer groups in very diverse areas such as bushfire recovery. It was an excellent presentation and thoroughly enjoyed by all present - thank you Jamie.

A Blast from the Past
I’m sure you’ve all heard of Heckle & Jeckle, Null & Void, Laurel & Hardy, Tom & Jerry, Coyote & The Roadrunner and the list goes on – but have you heard of this pair, famous around these parts as members of the Glentones, a well-known local group who played the halls and pubs of the North East and the Riverina. Formed in 1960 or thereabouts by three brothers Grahame, Allan and Donald Baker with Johnnie Wilson and Alan Burns on the drums, and Alan Boyd on the trumpet, the Glentones played together for 46 years, 5 of which our own Mr Entertainment, Rodney Vincent, played guitar with them. Rodney can’t remember which years he played with the band, but Grahame assures me they had to look after him and taught him all he knows and by the looks of this photo, it’s still happening today!
