Who is a refugee?

A refugee is a person who has been forced to leave their country and go to another country, because it is not safe for them to stay.

Today is World Refugee Day. But for families forced to flee conflict and crisis, the need for safety, support and hope doesn't end tomorrow.

Stand with refugees today and every day by helping provide the practical support they need to rebuild their lives and dream of a brighter future.

This world refugee week, we're sharing the dreams of children living in refugee camps.

Each child was asked to draw what their dreams were. Scientists. Soccer players. Teachers. Pilots. Doctors. Lawyers. Farmers.

Like children everywhere, they dream BIG. But unlike many children, the path to their dream has been shaped by conflict, displacement and uncertaintly.

Thank you for standing with refugee children and bringing them closer to their dreams.

Fawzia is 13.

When she was six, she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. It severely affected the right side of her body. She lost the ability to walk on her own.

Couldn’t hold anything in her right hand.

Even simple everyday tasks like eating or dressing were beyond her.

Hardest of all was not being able to play with other children

Because of YOUR kindness, Fawzia can now walk without support!

Through attending physical therapy, she's rebuilt her strength and confidence.

All children deserve the support they need to play, learn and have the best opportunities in life.

Your kindness again today ensures more girls like Fawzia receive the support they need, including school!

Bilan is 15 years old and dreams of becoming a doctor. Bilan grew up in Kakuma refugee camp, one of the largest refugee camps in the world.

At 5 years old, she became sick with Polio. Today, she relies on crutches to move around...

Bilan has returned with her family to Somalia. Here, through your kindness, she received physio support at the Education Assessment and Resource Centre.

Bilan is determined to do amazing things with her life

“I always joke that the best way to get me to do something is to tell me I couldn’t do it. That gives me lots of spirited determination."

Your kindness today can help more girls like Bilan receive the support they need to achieve their dreams.

This week is World Refugee week.

Around the world, millions of refugees face hardship daily, seeking a home and safe place to live.

It can be a big subject to educate children on. We've developed a range of resources for teachers and schools to use to help grow a students understanding and empathy for what millions of children and families face daily.

Earlier this year we had a great time together in Melbourne for our ABC (Ambassador BootCamp).

It was encouraging to spend time with passionate teachers who are helping inspire young people to lead with compassion, courage, and care for others.

Across the BootCamp, there were so many meaningful conversations, shared ideas, and practical ways to help students engage with issues of global justice, service, and humanitarian action through the work of ALWS.

A big thank you to every teacher who came along. We’re so grateful for your partnership and the way you continue to inspire the next generation to make a difference 🌏

Meet Anyieth from South Sudan.

Anyieth is a father, husband, and fisherman living in South Sudan.

Your kindness provided Anyieth with a net, fishing lure, a fishing rod and a fishing line.

Now, Anyieth is helping others in his communities fish too!

“I learned that giving support
to those you feel need your help
is a good thing.

It is another worthwhile gesture
of improving my community.

Imagine if you hadn’t given your money to help me?

I wish to do the same to another.
I promise to continue despite challenges.”
