As winter begins here in Australia, many of us are reaching for blankets, heaters, and warm meals!

For families in Ukraine, winter looked very different.

Together, you helped provide emergency support in Sumy Oblast, where communities faced ongoing attacks and displacement.

Because of your support, families received hot meals, hygiene kits, and trauma recovery care during an incredibly difficult time.

Over three months, 160 hot meals were served each day to people who had lost so much.

Thank you for helping bring warmth, care, and hope when it was needed most ❄️

If you’ve ever called ALWS, there’s a good chance you’ve spoken with Amanda 💙

As one of the friendly voices on the other end of the phone, Amanda spends her days connecting with supporters and helping people stay connected to the work they care about.

Recently, Amanda travelled to Nepal and had the opportunity to see some of this work firsthand, meeting communities, hearing stories, and seeing the resilience of the people our supporters walk alongside.

Thank you Amanda for the care, warmth, and heart you bring to the ALWS team every day.

As a baby, Xabib was given an unsafe injection that left him physically disabled.

His mum remembers the heartbreak clearly.

“I was in real pain after my son began writhing in pain. As parents, we want to see our children to be healthy. We dream of watching them grow up, play and go to school. That dream suddenly crushed!”

Years later, Xabib began physiotherapy at the EARC centre, supported by people like you. Through this support, he was also given the opportunity to attend school.

Now 17 years old, Xabib is in Grade 3 and pursuing the education he once thought was impossible.

“I feel good now that I have an opportunity to study just like any other child. Learning has long just been a pipe dream but my resilience and passion for education got me here today.”

Today, his mum watches him studying at home with tears of joy.

Last month, students and staff at took part in Walk My Way 🚶

Together, they stepped out in support of refugee girls in Kenya and Somalia, helping more children access the education they deserve.

It was also wonderful for Celia to spend time meeting with student leaders and hearing their passion for creating change in the world.

When girls can stay in school, they are safer, healthier, and given more opportunities for the future.

Thank you Calvary school for walking with purpose and helping create brighter futures through education.

In Nepal, women like Nilam are building businesses to support their families 💙

After receiving handicraft training, Nilam began making and selling woven bags and products alongside other women in her group.

Today, the group earns an income through their business while also saving together, farming together, and supporting one another.

“I can pay for school fees, I don’t have to ask my husband for money when I need it. I am independent and can manage finances by myself.”

Nilam has now trained 10 other women and hopes to continue growing the business and exploring new designs in the future.

Your support is helping women build skills, confidence, independence, and brighter futures for their families!

A huge thank you to the incredible teachers who joined us in Adelaide for our ABC (Ambassador BootCamp) 💙

It was such a special day of learning, sharing ideas, hearing stories from the humanitarian frontline, and connecting with others passionate about justice and service.

Together, we explored how schools and students can create meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.

Thank you for bringing your energy, compassion, and openness to the day. We loved spending time with you and can’t wait to see the difference you’ll make back in your schools and communities.

“‘My boy is eight, but he cannot go to school because we cannot afford the school clothes and materials.’”

For years, Keyro worried about how she would provide for her children.

In Ethiopia, she joined a women’s income-generating group learning how to make and sell aloe vera soap. Alongside soap-making skills, the women also received training in business and group management.

“In the first three months, our group has made a profit of 33,000 Birr ($400 AUD).”

Now, Keyro is dreaming bigger for her family.

“I hope for my children to live a good life, to be engineers and doctors. I believe this is possible.”

Your support helps women like Keyro build income, independence, and new opportunities for their children, thank you!

BIG NEWS!

Earlier this year we set an ambitious goal to raise enough money in the 100 days to Mother's Day to protect 1,000 girls from child marriage.

Together, we achieved the target EARLY - on 29 April!

What’s more, because a group of ALWS supporters committed to match donations $ for $, up to $200,000 (THANK YOU!) …

… we actually can now protect 2,000 girls from child marriage!

Thank you! Learn more at alws.org.au/PRECIOUS

"We live in a world where "what happens far away does not stay far away." It shapes the lives of families we are connected to, the security of our region, and the future of our children."

We stand for a Safer World for All and are excited to partner with organisations like Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), Micah Australia, and Albury Wodonga Ethnic Communities Council to continue advocating.

Last week, ALWS helped to host a Safer World for All forum in Albury. Our Executive Director, Michael Stolz, shares his reflections in the article linked below:
